Wolverines fall short to Bluejays to end season
GAYLORD — The Sibley East Wolverines got a strong outing from pitcher Nathan Schauer on Thursday, but the Waseca Bluejays countered that with one from Owen Honstad as they earned a 2-1 win to eliminate the Wolverines from the Section 2AA Baseball Tournament.
Schauer went all seven innings and allowed six hits and one walk for two runs while striking out seven. Honstad countered with six innings, allowing four hits and two walks for one run while fanning five.
Logan Reger got the save for Waseca in the seventh, allowing one hit while striking out two.
Riley Bussler was 2 for 4 with a double to lead the Sibley East bats, while Carson Schmidt was 1 for 2 with a walk and a run scored and Schauer was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Jaiden Schafer was 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead Waseca.
The Wolverines took the lead in the third when Schauer singled to left to score Schmidt, who led off with a walk and took second on a groundout.
Waseca got both of its runs in the fourth on an error and an RBI single from Schafer.
Waseca moves on in the elimination bracket to take on Tri-City United at 1 p.m. on Saturday, while Sibley East ends its season with a 14-9 record.
