Springfield girls lead first leg of Section 2A tourney

NORTH MANKATO — The Springfield girls golf team held a 23-stroke lead over Sleepy Eye United on Day 1 of the Section 2A Girls Golf Tournament on Thursday at North Links Golf Course.

Springfield finished first Thursday with a 377, while SEU was second (400), Mountain Lake was third (414) and Alden-Conger was fourth (430).

The top four teams and individuals not on those teams who shot a 114 or better qualified for the final day on Monday back at North Links.

SEU’s Sam Price was the medalist on Thursday with an 87, while Springfield’s Mavri Winkelmann was second with an 88.

Also for Springfield, Ava Lipetzky shot a 93 for fourth on Thursday, while Annie Kuehn and Willow Krueger each shot 98s for seventh and Kynslee Kastner shot a 109 for 16th.

SEU also saw Kiara Murphy shoot an 87 to tie for fourth, while Ella Pollard and Ruby Tauer shot 110s to tie for 18th and Elizabeth Currans shot a 111 for 21st.

Also advancing to Monday from the area, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s Kjerssa Jasinski shot a 110 for 10th. Cedar Mountain’s Bailey Woodford shot a 105 for 12th, while teammates Claire Sherman and Jaylyn Welter shot 109s to tie for 14th. GFW’s Hadley Doehling shot a 112 for 22nd.

New Ulm Cathedral’s Chloe Gillis just missed Monday’s cut with a 115 for 26th.
