Tigers fall to Clippers, end season

SPRINGFIELD — Sixth-seeded Cleveland topped second-seeded Springfield 8-5 in the elimination bracket of the Section 2A Baseball Tournament on Thursday.

Eli Heglund took the loss for the Tigers, striking out three and allowing five earned runs on five hits in four innings. At the plate, Madden Lendt was 2 for 5 with an RBI, while Max Moriarty had two RBIs. Eli Trevino added a hit and an run scored.

Springfield scored the first run of the game in the first on a sacrifice fly from Max Moriarty, but Cleveland took the lead in the second with a pair of runs. Springfield took the lead again in the third, with Adiel Trevino scoring on a fielder’s choice put into play by Max Moriarty, and Aiden Moriarty came home on the same play after an error for a 3-2 lead. Cleveland put up three more runs in the fourth, then three more in the fifth for an 8-3 lead. Tyson Horkey scored on an error in the seventh, then Lendt doubled to bring home Eli Trevino, but the rally ended there as Cleveland got the final out.

Springfield ends its season with an 18-6 record.
