TEL roundup: Saenz, Haala homer as Longhorns bully Bluejays

STARK 22, ESSIG 0 (7 INNINGS)

ESSIG — Zach Haala and Arian Saenz combined for seven hits, two homers and 11 RBIs Monday to power the Stark Longhorns to a 22-0 win over the Essig Bluejays in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

The game ended in seven innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Haala went 4 for 5 with a two-run homer in the sixth, a double, four RBIs and five runs scored, while Saenz was 3 for 5 with a two-run homer in the fourth, seven RBIs and three runs scored. Brandon Helget also was 2 for 5 with a double, four RBIs and four runs scored for Stark, while Adam Sellner was 2 for 5 with three RBIs and Talan Helget was 2 for 5.

Adam Sellner and Jon Kopacek each threw three innings for Stark. Sellner allowed two hits and struck out five, while Kopacek allowed no hits and three walks while fanning five to earn the win. Dylan Klein pitched an inning in relief also for the Longhorns, striking out the side.

Essig’s hits came on singles from Winsten Nienhaus and Joey Schugel. Nienhaus took the loss on the mound in two innings, allowing six hits and a walk for seven runs, three earned, while striking out one.

Stark moved to 1-1 in the TEL and is at Gibbon for a 1 p.m. TEL game Sunday, while Essig fell to 1-2 in the TEL and hosts Fox Lake in a non-league game Friday night before traveling to St. James for a 1 p.m. TEL game Sunday.

HANSKA 12, SEARLES 1 (7 INNINGS)

SEARLES — Getting a big jump by scoring six runs in the first inning, the Hanska Lakers went on to roll the Searles Grizzlies 12-1 on Monday in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

The game ended in seven innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Brock Wellmann led the Hanska bats by going 3 for 4 with a double and four RBIs, while Brady Mosenden was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored and Sam Knowles was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Colin Anderson was 1 for 2 with a double, a walk, an RBI and three runs scored also for the Lakers.

Anderson also got the mound win for the Lakers in five innings of work, allowing one hit and five walks for one earned run while striking out six.

Searles was led by Isaiah Rieser, who was 1 for 1 with two walks, while Tony Geiger had a walk and an RBI.

Casey Lux took the loss in one inning of work, allowing five hits and three walks for six runs, two earned, while striking out two.

Hanska improved to 2-0 in TEL play and next plays at Courtland in a 5 p.m. game Sunday, while Searles drops to 0-2 in TEL play and hosts Fairfax at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

SPRINGFIELD 16, SLEEPY EYE 6 (7 INNINGS)

SLEEPY EYE — The Springfield Tigers roared past the Sleepy Eye Indians 16-6 on Monday in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

The Tigers took a 9-0 lead in the fourth inning before Sleepy Eye got on the board with one run in the bottom of the fourth.

MaCoy Krick was 3 for 5 with two runs scored to lead the Springfield bats, while Ryan Sturm was 3 for 6 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Tyler Hach was 2 for 2 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored also for Springfield, while Jordan Milbrath was 2 for 3 with a double and four runs scored, Brandon Wilhelmi was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Decker Scheffler was 2 for 5 with a double and four RBIs.

Tyler Dick got the pitching win in 3 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and a walk for six runs, five earned, while striking out three. Noah Neperman pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings in relief also for the Tigers, walking one while striking out four.

Luke Mielke led the Sleepy Eye bats, going 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Matt Mielke was 2 for 5 with two doubles and an RBI and Owen Weiss had two RBIs.

Marcus Martinez took the loss for Sleepy Eye in 2 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and two walks for seven earned runs. Nick Mielke was Sleepy Eye’s most reliable reliever in the loss, going 3 1/3 innings and allowing two hits and two walks for one earned run while striking out five.

Springfield moved to 2-0 in TEL play with the win and hosts Leavenworth in a 5 p.m. TEL game Sunday, while Sleepy Eye dropped to 0-2 in the TEL and hosts Lamberton at 1 p.m. Sunday in another TEL game.

ALSO IN THE TEL

The St. James A’s defeated Lamberton 5-4, while the Fairfax Cardinals topped the Gibbon Reds 2-0. No statistics were available or reported for these games by the time this edition of The Journal went to press.
