MVL/NUC dominates at subsections
Area athletes qualify for section meet
ARLINGTON — Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral had the high scores on both sides of the Section 2A, North Subsection Track and Field Meet on Thursday. The top eight placers in each event advance to the Section 2A Track and Field Meet on May 30 at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton.
The MVL/NUC boys won the meet with a 114, followed by Sibley East (111), St. Clair/Immanuel Lutheran (109), Loyola/Cleveland/Minnesota Christian Academy (85), Glencoe-Silver Lake (61), River Valley (58), Central Public Schools (43), Mayer Lutheran (35), Lester Prairie (32), Le Sueur-Henderson (31) and Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.
On the girls side, MVL/NUC won with a 131, followed by SC/IM (110), L/C/MCA (99), River Valley (78), Sibley East (70), Mayer Lutheran (54), LSH (50.5), GFW (48), GSL (31.5), CPS (26) and Lester Prairie (3).
For the MVL/NUC boys, Levi Johnson placed fifth in the 100m (11.39), while John Hoffman placed second in the 200m (23.03). Owen Manthe placed sixth in the 400m (23.02) and Jeremy Feistner placed fifth in the 800m (2:09.72) and third in the 1,600m (4:45.15). Max Fischer placed eighth 9th in the 3,200m. Oliver Schuch took second (16.09) in the 110m hurdles, with Kohls placing third (16.55), and Kohls also won the 300m hurdles (41.88). The 4×100 relay team of Ben Riesgraf, Hoffman, Schuch and Johnson won (43.76), as did the 4×200 relay team of Riesgraf, Hoffman, Ethan Schauland and Johnson (1:33.31). The 4×400 relay team of Kohls, Riesgraf, Micah Horak and Owen Manthe took fourth (3:39.23). Emmanuel Edwards placed fourth in shot put (42-00) and third in discus (132-08), and Horak placed sixth in high jump (5-08). Schauland placed third in pole vault (11-0). Riesgraf placed fourth in long jump (19-05.5), with Hoffman placing seventh (18-11), while Schuch placed second in triple jump (39-11.75) and Quinten forst came in fifth (38-07.75).
For the Sibley East boys, Terrek Jenniges won the wheelchair 100m (22.40, the wheelchair 200m (43.50) and the wheelchair 400m (1:34.64). Jacksen Pomplun placed sixth in the 200m (24.31), and Gage Horstman won the 800m (2:02.00), with Mausten Krueger placing sixth (2:11.72). Julio Alejandro placed second in the 1,600m (4:40.94), and Aiden McCue placed first in the 110m hurdles (15.70), with Montgomery Halquist placing fourth (16.78). Tanner Johnson placed third in the 300m hurdles (44.34). The 4×400 relay team of Ezra Weber, Alejandro, McCue and Horstman placed third (3:37.11), while the 4×800 relay team of Krueger, Aiden Christenson, Alejandro and Horstman took first (8:31.55). Weber took fourth in pole vault (10-06), with Dhari Al Sattam taking seventh (9-0). McCue won the long jump (20-11.0), with Pomplun coming in second (20-01.0), and McCue also won the triple jump (41-0.5), with Halquist placing seventh (37-6.0).
For the River Valley boys, Parker Kuehn placed fourth in the 100m (11.22) and third in the 200m (23.28), with McCoy Marti coming in seventh in the 200m (24.63). Dylan Dewitt placed eighth in the 800m (2:11.77), while Levi Hagen placed fourth in the 1,600m (4:49.00), with Dewitt coming in sixth (4:55.76). Cameron Moore came in second in the 300m hurdles (44.12). the 4×100 relay of Stan Heilig, Isaiah Bislew, Cesar Martinez and Marti placed fourth (47.29), while the 4×200 relay team of Moore, Marti, Matthew Fernandez and Kuehn placed second (1:34.89). Carter Dent placed seventh in shot put (41-03.50), and Conner Kyllonen placed eighth in discus (119-03). Josiah Siefkes took sixth in pole vault (10-0), with Noah Rossbach placing eighth (9-0). Kuehn placed sixth in long jump (19-01) and Jony Flores placed eighth in triple jump (37-01).
For the GFW boys, Brayden Miller placed eighth in the 100m (12.01), and Christopher Ruiz placed eighth in the 200m (24.75). Cole Jacobson placed fifth in the 300m hurdles (46.87). The 4×100 relay team of Regie Mattes, Garrett Stegeman, Miller and Ruiz took third (46.22), while the 4×200 team of Mattes, Stegeman, Ruiz and Jacobson placed fourth (1:37.12). Brandon Long placed fifth in discus (123-10).
Winning the meet on the girls side also left several MVL/NUC girls qualifiers for the section championships. For MVL/NUC, Emily Brown finished second in the 100 (12.94), while Tiphany Dos Santos took seventh (13.48). Violet Hammer took third in the 200 (27.07), while Faith Peters finished sixth in the 400 (1:04.03), Natalie Matzke took sixth in the 800 (2:31.1) and Taryn Freier took eighth in the 800 (2:33.82). Matzke also took second in the 3,200 (11:57.54), while Kamryn Davey took first in the 100 hurdles (15.52) and Avery Freier took third in the 100 hurdles (16.37). Brown took first in the 300 hurdles (47.06), while Avery Freier took third (49.31) and Rebekah Vlieger took sixth (52.11). The MVL/NUC girls 4×100 relay team of Brown, Davey, Avery Freier and Violet Hammer won with a time of 50.42, while the 4×400 relay team of Kenlee Wendinger, Faith Peters, Taryn Freier and Violet Hammer took fourth (4:18.39). The 4×800 relay team of Faith Peters, Elizabeth Fischer, Grace Peters and Taryn Freier took fourth (10:26.61). Avery Hahn and Jennarae Bates took third (31-01) and sixth (29-08), respectively, in the shot put, while Bates took third in the discus (100-06), Mollie Burden took fifth in the pole vault (8-0), Olivia Hammer took eighth in the long jump (15-0), Davey took first in the triple jump (34-03.25), Olivia Hammer took second in the triple jump (33-11.25) and Raegan Tiegs took fifth in the triple jump (32-01).
For the River Valley girls, Marley Hewitt took first in the 200 (26.43) and first in the 400 (1:00.79), while Farrah Dauer took eighth in the 1,600 (5:54.84). Katie Thram took second in both the 100 hurdles (15.75) and 300 hurdles (47.57), while the 4×400 relay team of Camryn Maher, Thram, Lydia Dauer and Hewitt took second (4:12.4). The 4×800 relay team of Maher, Olivia Milbrath, Dauer and Brynne Ibberson took third (10:13.94). Yuridia Fernandez took fifth in the discus (87-11), while Milbrath took third in the high jump (4-10), Hewitt took second in the long jump (16-09) and Millie Lax took eighth in the triple jump (31-01).
For the GFW girls, Kinley Bruns took third in the 100 (13.04) and fourth in the 400 (1:04.03), while Silvana Ruiz took fourth in the 800 (2:23.63) and Madyson Steele took fifth in the 1,600 (5:43.12). Annie Wersal took first in the shot put (34-02) and discus (114-11).
For the Sibley East girls, Audrey Ott took fourth in the 100 (13.16), while Ruby Ballalatak took third in the 800 (2:23.14), Ella Doehling took seventh in the 1,600 (5:52.65), Paige Gardiner took third in the 3,200 (12:03.88) and Adilynn Odenthal took fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.97). The 4×100 relay team of Odenthal, Emma Eccles, Makayla Mehlhop and Ott took third (51.39), while the 4×200 relay team of Ott, Mehlhop, Anna Colling and Adeline McCue took fourth (1:52.57) and the 4×800 relay team of Bridget Biron, Claire Bauer, Ballalatak and Gardiner took second (9:57.93). Tessa McCracken took fourth in the shot put (30-02) and seventh in the discus (85-0), while Madelyn Thoele took eighth (82-08). Colling took seventh in the high jump(4-10), while Stella Taffy took eighth in the pole vault (7-06), Eccles took third in the long jump (16-04.5) and Mehlhop took fifth in the long jump (15-04.5).
