Weekend area roundup: Wabasso wins home tourney
PREP SOFTBALL
WABASSO GOES 3-0 IN HOME TOURNEY
WABASSO — The Wabasso Rabbits won their home softball tournament on Saturday, defeating Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 16-7, Redwood Valley 11-3 and New Ulm Cathedral 3-2.
In a first-round, five-inning win over TMB, Macy Rohlik was 2 for 3 with a grand slam to lead Wabasso, while Cassie Bliss was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Delaina Eis was 2 for 4 and Sara Carlson homered and had five RBIs. Aylah Jenniges took the win in two innings, allowing five hits and three walks for four earned runs while striking out three.
In a six-inning semifinals win over Redwood Valley, the Rabbits were led by Audrey Johnson, who was 2 for 3 with six RBIs, while Rohlik was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Eis was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Aylah Jenniges was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Bliss was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Peyton Jenniges was 2 for 4. Aylah Jenniges got the win in six innings, allowing three hits and one walk for three unearned runs while fanning three.
In the championship win over Cathedral, Wabasso was led by Eis, who was 3 for 3 with an RBI, while Rohlik doubled and added an RBI. Aylah Jenniges got the win in all seven innings, allowing six hits and one walk for two unearned runs while striking out three.
Wabasso moved to 16-4 on the year with the three wins.
CATHEDRAL TAKES 2ND IN WABASSO TOURNEY
WABASSO — New Ulm Cathedral finished the Wabasso tournament on Saturday runners-up to Wabasso, defeating Murray County Central 8-0 and Edgerton 6-0 before falling to Wabasso 3-2.
In the win over MCC, Cathedral was led by Ashlyn Hillesheim, who was 2 for 2, while Ava Schmid homered and drove in four runs. Jayde Altermatt pitched a perfect game, allowing no walks, no hits and no runs while the Greyhounds had no errors. Altermatt also struck out 12.
In the win over Edgerton, Altermatt pitched a no-hitter, striking out 14 in the win. She also didn’t allow a walk. Leah Wilson led the Greyhounds at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a solo homer, while Shay Wilfahrt added a double and an RBI and Brynn Wilfahrt had a single and two RBIs.
In the loss to Wabasso, Wilson and Thea Paszkiewicz each went 2 for 4 to lead the Greyhounds at the plate. Altermatt took the loss in six innings, allowing seven hits and one walk for three earned runs while striking out four. Altermatt also passed 400 strikeouts for her career during the tournament.
Cathedral moved to 17-3 on the year following the tourney.

MANKATO WEST 1, NEW ULM 0 (9 INNINGS)
MANKATO — New Ulm fell to a walk-off double by Mason Schreiber in extra innings Saturday, losing 1-0 in the nine innings of a nonconference baseball game.
Tanner Backer got the start on the mound and took the no decision for New Ulm, going 6 2/3 innings and allowing no runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six. Collin Forstner took the loss in two innings of relief, allowing four hits and one walk for one unearned run while striking out one. Levi Hopp had both of New Ulm’s two hits in the game, going 2 for 4.
New Ulm fell to 11-4 with the loss.

WABASSO 11, LESTER PRAIRIE 2
WABASSO 4, LESTER PRAIRIE 0
WABASSO — Wabasso swept Lester Prairie 11-2 and 4-0 in a Tomahawk Division baseball game on Friday.
Jack Burns earned the win in Game 1 for the Rabbits, striking out eight while allowing two runs on 11 hits in seven innings. At the plate, Zach Skoblik had two hits and four RBIs, while Jayden Remiger had a double, a triple and three RBIs.
Cason Olson earned the win in Game 2 for Wabasso, striking out one and allowing three hits and no runs in five innings. At the plate, Bruns had two hits with a home run and two RBIs, while Brady Baune had a double and two RBIs.
Wabasso (5-12, 3-9) plays a doubleheader at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Monday.
