Prokosch powers Bluejays by Cardinals in TEL opener
ESSIG — The Essig Bluejays took down the Fairfax Cardinals 9-2 on Sunday in the Tomahawk East League amateur baseball season opener.
Erich Prokosch led Essig at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs, while Zach Riederer was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Joey Schugel was 2 for 4 and Winsten Nienhaus was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Nienhaus got the win on the mound in three innings, allowing two hits and two walks for two unearned runs while striking out three. Josh Vander Plas pitched four innings to start for Essig, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out seven, while Riederer pitched two innings in relief and allowed just one walk while striking out six.
Elway Berg led the Cardinals at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double, while Luke Bastian was 1 for 2 with a double. Isaac Louwagie took the loss in two innings of work, allowing two hits and five walks for three earned runs while striking out three.
