Area roundup: Wolverines top Knights despite Sanderson’s 14 K’s

GAYLORD — Sibley East edged by Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 5-4 in a South Central Conference baseball game on Tuesday.
Ben Friedrichs earned the win for the Wolverines, striking out one and allowing two runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings. Nathan Schauer pitched 5 1/3 innings, striking out five and allowing two runs, on earned, on two hits and seven walks. At the plate for Sibley East, Carson Schmidt was 2 for 4, while Schauer had a hit and an RBI.
Griffin Larson took the loss for LCWM, striking out one and allowing one run on one hit in one inning. Landon Sanderson pitched 5 2/3 innings, striking out 14 and allowing four runs, none earned, on three hits. At the plate, Sanderson had a hit and two RBIs while Brayden Matthews was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Sibley East (9-4, 7-1) hosts Belle Plaine on Thursday. LCWM (6-7, 4-4) plays at Triton on Thursday.

MVL BOYS 191, WABASSO 210, BLHS 222
MVL GIRLS 241, WABASSO 243
SANBORN — Minnesota Valley Lutheran won both the boys and girls side of a prep golf meet on Tuesday. The MVL boys scored a 191, followed by Wabasso (210) and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (222), and the MVL girls scored a 241, followed by Wabasso (243).
MVL’s Philip Lukasek was the medalist on the boys side, scoring a 40. He was followed by Wabasso’s Brayden Guetter (46), MVL’s Jacksen Gerdts (47), Wabasso’s Paxton guetter (49), BLHS’s John Willert (52) and MVL’s Logan Paulsen and Colby Doering (52).
MVL’s Annika Lowrey was the girls medalist (51), followed by Wabasso’s Alexis Jensen (52), MVL’s Eden Grubbs (59), Wabasso’s Josie Wiese (62), and MVL’s Scarlet Heldt and Wabasso’s Carlee Jenniges (63).
