Weekend area roundup: Becker leads Madelia baseball by Springfield

SATURDAY

PREP BASEBALL

MADELIA 10, SPRINGFIELD 1

MILROY — Madelia routed Springfield 10-1 on Saturday in a prep baseball invite game at Irish Yard.

The big Section 2A matchup saw Madelia pitcher Tate Becker shut down the Springfield bats, going six innings in the win and allowing just one hit and three walks for no runs while striking out eight. He also led the way for Madelia at the plate, going 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Bryce Borkenhagen was 3 for 4 with an RBI, Evan Coil was 2 for 5 with a homer and three RBIs and Noel Davila was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Eli Heglund took the loss on the mound for Springfield, going 5 1/3 innings and giving up six earned runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out three. Madden Lendt got Springfield’s only hit of the game with a single.

Madelia moved to 14-1 with the win, while Springfield fell to 12-2.

SPRINGFIELD 10, DAWSON-BOYD 7

MILROY — Springfield started a prep baseball invite at Irish Yard on Saturday by defeating Dawson-Boyd 10-7.

The Tigers were led by Madden Lendt, who was 2 for 3 with a triple, a double, an RBI and three runs scored, while Ely Streich was 2 for 2 with a triple, a double and two RBIs and Leo Hovland was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Noah Mueller got the win in 2 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and a walk for no runs while striking out two.

LUVERNE 10, MADELIA 5

MILROY — Before Madelia ended its Saturday with a big win over Springfield, the Blackhawks lost their undefeated record on the season with a 10-5 loss to Luverne in a prep baseball invite game at Irish Yard.

Tony Zaleski led Madelia with a 3-for-3 day at the plate, which included two doubles, and he scored two runs. Bryce Borkenhagen was 2 for 3 also, while Evan Coil was 1 for 3 with three RBIs. Zach Jacobs took the pitching loss in five innings, allowing seven hit and two walks for eight earned runs while striking out three.

ST. CLOUD CATHEDRAL 10, SPRINGFIELD 5

LCWM 10, SPRINGFIELD 0 (5 INNINGS)

NORTH MANKATO — Springfield played in a Caswell Park softball invite on Saturday, falling 10-5 to St. Cloud Cathedral in its first game and 10-0 to Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial in its second game.

In the loss to St. Cloud Cathedral, Abby Groebner was 1 for 2 with a homer, an RBI, two walks and three runs scored to lead the Tigers. Regan Beadell took the loss in six innings, allowing eight hits and six walks for six earned runs while striking out two.

In the loss to LCWM, Springfield was led by Jada Reese, who was 1 for 2 with a triple. Faye Williams took the loss in four innings, allowing eight hits and four walks for three earned runs while striking out two. Nev Parsons got the five-inning shutout for LCWM in the game, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out 11. Sydney Kramer led the LCWM bats against Springfield, going 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Nettie Parsons homered.

Springfield fell to 8-6 on the year.

SLEEPY EYE 5, SPRINGFIELD 3

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye avenged only loss of the season on Friday night, ending Springfield’s undefeated streak with a 5-3 win in a Tomahawk Division baseball game.

Kayden Klein got the complete-game win for Sleepy Eye, allowing seven hits and one walk for two earned runs while striking out nine. He was also 1 for 2 at the plate with two walks, while Carson Uecker was 1 for 2 with a double and an RBI and Jaxon Saenz was 1 for 3 with a double.

Madden Lendt took the loss for Springfield in 5 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits and four walks for five earned runs while striking out five.

Sleepy Eye moved to 13-1 with the win, while the Tigers dropped to 11-1.

SIBLEY EAST 14, EAGLE RIDGE ACADEMY 4 (5 INNINGS)

MINNETONKA — Sibley East downed Eagle Ridge Academy 14-4 in five innings of a nonconference baseball game on Friday.

Riley Bussler led the Wolverines at the plate in the win, going 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while Carson Schmidt was 2 for 3 with four runs scored. Riley Edbolm also was 2 for 4 with five RBIs. Alex Bachman got the win on the mound in three innings, allowing three hits and four walks for two earned runs while striking out four.

Sibley East moved to 8-4 with the win.

PREP SOFTBALL

NICOLLET 12, ALDEN-CONGER 1 (GAME 1, 5 INNINGS)

NICOLLET 16, ALDEN-CONGER 2 (GAME 2, 5 INNINGS)

NICOLLET — Nicollet rolled Alden-Conger in a softball doubleheader on Friday, winning 12-1 in Game 1 and 16-2 in Game 2.

The games ended in five innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

In Game 1, Taylor Wilking and Lydia Martens each went 2 for 3 with two RBIs to lead Nicollet at the plate, while Chloe Kachelmeier and Zoei Rengstorf were each 2 for 4 with two runs scored apiece, with Kachelmeier adding an RBI. Brielle Osborne got a no-hitter win in five innings, allowing six walks for one earned run while striking out nine.

In Game 2, Jazmyn Goettlicher was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Raiders, while Aubrey Hulke was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Lydia Martens was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored and Rengstorf was 2 for 5 with two runs scored. Breah Hendrickson added a double and three RBIs. Osborne got the five-inning win again in the circle, allowing one hit and five walks for no earned runs while striking out seven.

Nicollet moved to 12-5 on the year with the wins.

USC 7, MVL 0

WELLS — United South Central defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 7-0 on Friday in a nonconference softball game.

MVL kept it close before a four-run fifth inning helped USC create space.

Katlyn Stadick took the loss in the circle, going 4 1/3 innings and allowing three earned runs on five hits and seven walks. Kenzie Graham was 1 for 3 to lead MVL at the plate.
