PREP BASEBALL
MVL 9, ST. MARY’S 7 (8 INNINGS)
SLEEPY EYE — Minnesota Valley Lutheran topped Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 9-7 in eight innings in a nonconference baseball game on Friday.
Rogan Scriver earned the win for the Chargers, striking out two while allowing no runs on two hits in 2 2/3 innings. Kurt Trahms made the start, striking out eight while allowing seven runs, three earned, on three hits in 5 1/3 innings. At the plate, Aiden Weisensel was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Scriver had a hit and three RBIs. Blake Sexton had a home run and three runs scored.
Adam Braulick took the loss for St. Mary’s, striking out five while allowing three runs on six hits. Eli Christensen made the start, striking out seven while allowing six runs on one hit. At the plate, Michael Balko had a hit, an RBI and a run scored, while Jalen Brandl had a hit and two RBIs.

MVL took a 3-2 lead after the first inning, but St. Mary’s put up two runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-3 advantage. MVL responded by posting four runs in the top of the fifth, with Scriver hitting a two-RBI single. St. Mary’s tied it up with two runs in the sixth as Brandl hit a two-RBI single. The game stayed tied after seven, and in the top of the fourth, MVL’s Connor Bode scored on a wild pitch, then Sexton hit an inside-the-park home run for a 9-7 lead, which MVL held on to for the win.
MVL (5-6) plays a doubleheader at Maple River on Tuesday, while St. Mary’s (7-7) plays at Lester Prairie on Monday.
MEDFORD 14, NICOLLET 1 (5 INNINGS)
MEDFORD — Nicollet fell to Medford 14-1 in five innings of a nonconference baseball game on Friday.
Nicollet got its lone run of the game on a groundout in the fourth by Avery McKinley. Jacob Volby was 2 for 2 to lead the Raiders at the plate, while Landyn Erickson was 1 for 2 and Hugh Madson was 1 for 3. Erickson took the loss in one inning of work, allowing eight earned runs while striking out one.
Nicollet (0-9) is at Truman on Tuesday for a Valley Division game.
PREP SOFTBALL
NEW ULM 6, ST. PETER 5
NEW ULM — New Ulm topped St. Peter 6-5 in a Big South Conference softball game on Friday.
Megan Brudelie got the complete-game win, striking out four while allowing five walks and 10 hits. At the plate, Gracie Baker was 2 for 4 with a home run a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Miley Flor was 2 for 2 with a double, Megan Brudelie was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Maddi Olson was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
New Ulm (6-3, 5-2) hosts Owatonna on Monday.
ST. CLAIR 9, ST. MARY’S 8
ST. CLAIR — St. Clair/Mankato Loyola edged Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 9-8 in a nonconference softball game on Friday.
Natalie Zarn took the loss for St. Mary’s, pitching six innings and allowing seven hits and two walks four eight earned runs while striking out four. At the plate, Sydney Tauer was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Taylor Mathiowetz was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Audra Hoffmann was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Nell Weiss had a hit and three RBIs.
St. Mary’s (6-7) hosts Lester Prairie on Monday.
PREP GOLF
NEW ULM BOYS TIE FOR SECOND AT FAIRMONT
FAIRMONT — The New Ulm boys tied for second in a 13-team prep golf meet on Friday, while the girls placed ninth.
Colton Anderson led the Eagles boys, placing fifth with a 77. Brayden Wendinger placed 14th (81), and Ethan Schmidt and Asher Wendinger tied for 25th (86).
Lydia Osborne led the Eagles girls with a 101 to score 18th. Lillian Kral placed 21st (103), Maddy Wellmann placed 32nd (109) and Chloe Kelley placed 53rd (142).
SPRINGFIELD GIRLS WIN AT MCW
SHERBURN — The Springfield girls placed first out of four teams at a prep golf meet on Friday.
Springfield scored a 197 and were followed by St. James/Madelia (213), New Ulm Cathedral (239) and Martin County West (240). On the boys side, SJ/M won with a 174, followed by MCW (194) and Cathedral (198).
Springfield’s Ava Lipetzky and Mavri Winkelmann tied for the top spot individually on the girls side with a 47, along with SJ/M’s Genesis Robels. Cathedral’s Emma Hoffmann placed fourth (50), while Springfield’s Annie Kuehn took fifth (51).
SJ/M’s Laiken Melzer took first on the boys side of the meet with a 39. Cathedral’s Carter Wilson tied for third (43), while Cathedral’s Andrew Bentler tied for seventh (48).
BOYS TENNIS
NEW ULM 6, BEA 1
BLUE EARTH — New Ulm topped Blue Earth Area 6-1 in a boys tennis meet on Friday.
At No. 2 singles, Dan Brownfield defeated Devin Haase 6-4, 6-4, while Issac Dittmer topped David Bautista 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3 singles and Griffin Lehne downed Nolan Hagadorn 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Wyatt Feucht and Thomas Lehne won over Noah Hanson and Mitchell Stevermer 26-, 6-3, 6-1, Everett Brown and Ryan Johnson defeated Caleb Goshorn and Eli Goshorn 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles, and Hayden Owens and Cole Frederick topped Hayden Prestegard and Jack Bell 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
