Two MLC athletes win POTW honors

Two Martin Luther College won Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors recently, Britney Prahl in women’s tennis and Ben Pearson in men’s golf.

Prahl wrapped up her collegiate career with the Knights by being awarded the UMAC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week (April 20-26).

Prahl went 4-0 in singles play this past week as the No. 1 player for MLC. On Monday, against Hamline, she won 0-6, 6-4 (5-10), 1-0, then claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Bethany on Tuesday, and followed those efforts up with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Morris on Friday and a 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 win against Northwestern on Saturday. Prahl also won twice in doubles competition, defeating Morris’ duo in No. 1 doubles 6-0.

Pearson, a sophomore, won the UMAC Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week (April 20-26) for his 1st-place performance at the MLC Spring Invitational last Thursday, April 23, at the New Ulm Country Club.

In a meet that hosted all UMAC schools and about 60 golfers competing on the men’s side, Pearson finished the Par 70 with a score of 72. Pearson won by four strokes, as the second-place golfer, Julian Bhardwaj from Bethany, shot a 76.
