Three inducted into New Ulm Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame

NEW ULM — Three local bowlers were inducted into the New Ulm Bowling Hall of Fame on April 26 at the Kegel Klub – Concordia Lanes, New Ulm.

The 2026 inductee for the New Ulm Women’s Bowling Association is Margaret Lund. The Men’s Bowling Association is bestowing this year’s Hall of Fame honors to Leon Maidl and Alan Richter.

MARGARET LUND

Margaret Lund has been a dedicated member of the bowling community for more than 40 years, recording a high game of 273, a high series of 743, and a top average of 163. She began bowling in eighth grade and competed in leagues in Gibbon and Fairfax before moving to New Ulm in 1986. After stepping away from the sport for nearly 30 years, she returned to bowling in 2020 and remains active today. Lund currently bowls in the Cordettes and Primetimers leagues, along with several specialty leagues. One of her proudest accomplishments was earning entry into the 600 Club and later taking second place in its tournament with her career-high series. She continues to enjoy the game and the strong sense of community it brings.

LEON MAIDL

Leon Maidl has built an outstanding bowling career, highlighted by a high game of 290 — bowled twice — a high series of 792, and a top average of 211. A charter member of the Sioux League since 1981, he has been part of 12 championship teams and remains a consistent competitor. Maidl has also been active in the All-Star League, where he served as a team captain and recorded some of his top achievements. In addition to league play, he has competed in tournaments at the local, state, and national levels. His accomplishments include multiple New Ulm City/Association titles in team, doubles, and singles events. Maidl is known for his consistency, leadership, and long-standing dedication to the sport.

ALAN RICHTER

Alan Richter has been a cornerstone of the New Ulm bowling community, known for both his skill and his dedication to the sport. He has recorded a high game of 279, a high series of 694, and a top average of 200. Since 1997, Richter has been a valued member of the Cloverleaf/Concordia Lanes staff, contributing through maintenance, operations, and tournament support. He has also made a lasting impact as a coach, working with youth and adult bowlers alike. Even after experiencing health challenges, Richter continues to bowl weekly and remains a reliable and respected teammate. His commitment and passion have left a lasting mark on bowling in New Ulm.
