NEW ULM — In a seven-team prep track and field meet at New Ulm High School on Tuesday, it was Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral that stood out the most, winning the girls side of the meet with a score of 163 and placing second on the boys side with a score of 97.
“We’ve been able to compete with these larger schools this year, and it’s been nice,” MVL/NUC head coach Rollin Timm said. “The girls have really bonded well and have filled our events with some talent and depth. They’re pushing each other, and it’s a pleasure to be able to coach them.”
MVL/NUC now prepares for the True Team section meet on Tuesday at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, where it has high hopes.
“As a team, we have a good shot at making the State True Team meet,” Timm said. “We’ve got to beat St. Clair and St. James and some of those other tough teams in our section. Then we’ll start focusing on the individual events. There’s a lot of top individuals in the section, so once it gets to that time in the season, it’s pretty tough. But we’ll see what we can do.”
MVL/NUC will first have a meet at Sibley East on Friday.
