NEW ULM — New Ulm Cathedral used solid offense with shutdown pitching Tuesday afternoon as they swept Wabasso 15-0 and 6-0 in a Tomahawk Division baseball doubleheader at Mueller Park.
The first game was stopped after 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run lead rule.
“I was happy with all three phases of our game tonight,” Cathedral head baseball coach Alan Woitas said. “Defensively we were really good (two errors in two games) Ryler (Collins), Eli (Anderson) and Henry (Forst) all came in and pounded the strike zone and attacked hitters — they threw all of their pitches for strikes at different points of the games. And offensively we had just great contributions up and down our lineup. We had a lot of contributions from a lot of different guys.”
In the first game, Collins scattered three hits and fanned three in getting the win.
Zach Skoblik took the loss for Wabasso. He went three innings and allowed nine runs on eight hits.

Collins also led the 14-hit Cathedral offense with three hits. Elijah Rieser, Evan Blekestad and Camden Berg each had two hits.
Berg, Henry Forst and Blekestad each had two RBIs.
The Greyhounds, who have been averaging just over nine runs per game, plated five runs in the bottom of the first on a Blekestad single, a two-run single from Forst, a wild pitch and a Berg single.
Cathedral added two runs in both the second and third innings on an Evan Starke single and an error. In the third it was a wild pitch and a walk that scored two more runs.
Cathedral then scored six times in the fourth. Singles from Berg, a fielder’s choice, a Rieser base hit and a Blekestad double made it 13-0.
A wild pitch and a Nathan Murphy base hit made it 15-0.
In Game 2, Eli Anderson pitched six innings of two-hit ball and struck out five in the 6-0 win.
Forst pitched the seventh for Cathedral.
Jack Burns took the loss for Wabasso. He went six innings and was charged with all six runs.
Collins had two hits for Cathedral.
The Greyhounds scored a run in the first on a Blekestad single and an Anderson triple.
Cathedral plated three runs in the second on a two-run double from Alex Portner and a Rieser single.
Cathedral closed out the scoring in the sixth on two Wabasso errors.
“We are putting the ball in play offensively — we are getting some really good at-bats,” Woitas said. “We are having some good two-strike approachs at the plate.”
And his pitching staff throwing back-to-back shutouts in a doubleheader was another positive for Woitas.
“We may have had that last year, but good performances from Ryler, Eli and Henry today,” he said.
Cathedral (9-3, 8-2) hosts Mankato Loyola on Friday at Johnson Park, while Wabasso (2-8, 1-7) hosts Sleepy Eye on Thursday in a Tomahawk game.
