PREP BASEBALL

SPRINGFIELD 3, HAYFIELD 1

HAYFIELD — Springfield topped Hayfield 3-1 in a nonconference baseball game on Friday.

Eli Heglund earned the win for the Tigers, striking out three while allowing no runs on three hits in 4 1/3 innings. At the plate, Madden Lendt had a hit and a run scored, while Heglund also recorded a hit. Aiden Moriarty had an RBI.

Springfield (10-0) plays at Springfield on Monday.

MADELIA 6, LCWM 0

LAKE CRYSTAL — Madelia defeated Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 6-0 in a nonconference baseball game on Friday.

Dalton Tatro earned the win for Madelia, striking out three while allowing two hits in five innings. At the plate, Brayden Grev had a hit and two RBIs, while Zach Jacobs had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Landon Sanderson took the loss for LCWM, striking out nine while allowing three runs, one earned, on one hit in four innings. At the plate, Carson Othoudt had two hits.

Madelia (10-0) plays Belle Plaine at ISG Field in Mankato on Saturday, while LCWM (6-3) hosts Le Sueur-Henderson in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

ST. PETER 3, NEW ULM 1

ST. PETER — St. Peter defeated New Ulm 3-1 in a Big South Conference baseball game on Friday.

Tanner Backer took the loss for New Ulm, striking out seven while allowing three runs on two hits. At the plate, Owen Castleman had a hit and a run scored, while Levi Hopp and Candon Briggs each had a hit.

New Ulm (7-3, 5-2) plays at Marshall on Monday.

PREP SOFTBALL

SLEEPY EYE 18, ST. CLAIR/LOYOLA 9

ST. CLAIR — Sleepy Eye topped St. Clair/Mankato Loyola 18-9 in a nonconference softball game on Friday.

Taylor Berkner earned the win for Sleepy Eye, striking out eight while allowing nine runs, two earned, on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. At the plate, Berkner was 2 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs, while Mia Walter was 3 for 3 with four RBIs. Megan Sellner was 2 for 5 with three RBIs and three runs scored, while Callie Evers was 2 for 4 with two RBIS and four runs scored. Jace Schauman had two hits and two runs scored.

Sleepy Eye (10-2) plays at Springfield on Monday.

MADELIA 17, AC/GE 1 (5 INNINGS)

MADELIA — Madelia rolled Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 17-1 in five innings in a Valley Division softball game on Friday.

Emily Jacobs earned the win for the Blackhawks, striking out seven while allowing one run on two hits in five innings. At the plate, Jacobs was 2 for 4 with four RBIs, while Lauryn Grev was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Libby Jensen was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Janelle Callejas was 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Madelia (3-7) plays in a tournament at Caswell Park in Saturday.

USC 10, SPRINGFIELD 0 (5 INNINGS)

WELLS — United South Central defeated Springfield 10-0 in five innings in a nonconference softball game on Friday.

Regan Beadell took the loss for Springfield, striking out two while allowing 10 runs on 14 hits to the defending state champions. Springfield did not record any hits in the game.

Springfield (6-4) hosts Sleepy Eye on Monday.

SEU BOYS 154, GFW 188, CEDAR MOUNTAIN 189, BLHS 215

SEU GIRLS 197, GFW 214, CEDAR MOUNTAIN 220, BLHS INC.

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye United swept both sides of a prep golf meet on Friday. The boys led with a score of 154, besting Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (188), Cedar Mountain (189) and BLHS (215), while the girls scored a 197, followed by GFW (214) and Cedar Mountain (220). The BLHS girls were incomplete.

SEU’s Nolan Kucera was the boys medalist, scoring a 34. He was followed by SEU’s Blaine Arneswno (37) and Anders Coulson (39), GFW’s Lincoln McCue (42) and SEU’s Eli Christensen, Cedar Mountain’s Carson Schiller and GFW’s Cole Jacobson (44).

SEU’s Sam Price placed first on the girls side, scoring a 41. She was followed by GFW’s Kjerssa Jasinski (47), Cedar Mountain’s Bailey Woodford and SEU’s Kiara Murphy (48), SEU’s Ella Pollard (51) and GFW’s Hadley Doehling (52).
