Sleepy Eye takes down Cathedral 9-3

NEW ULM — Sleepy Eye right-hander Kayden Klein scattered six New Ulm Cathedral hits and the bottom three hitters in the Indians’ batting order combined to drive in eight runs as Sleepy Eye downed the Greyhounds 9-3 in a Tomahawk Division baseball game Tuesday night at Johnson Park.

Klein fanned four in getting the win.

Ryler Collins took the loss for Cathedral.

Carson Uecker and Chase Zufall each had two hits for Sleepy Eye.

Jaxon Saenz drove in three runs for Sleepy Eye, with Zufall and Anden Braun each driving in two runs.

Alex Portner had two hits for Cathedral.

Each team scored a run in the first inning before the Indians plated two runs in the fourth on a Saenz single.

The Indians then broke open the game with six runs in the top of the fifth.

A wild pitch, a walk, a two-run double from Zufall and a Braun single gave Sleepy Eye a 9-1 lead.

Cathedral scored two runs in the bottom of the inning on an Eli Anderson single and an infield error.

Cathedral (6-2, 3-1) is at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s for a Tomahawk doubleheader on Thursday, while Sleepy Eye (7-1, 6-1) travels to Hector to take on Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a Tomahawk doubleheader on Thursday.
