Area roundup: Sleepy Eye tops Redwood Valley

Sleepy Eye 57, Redwood Valley 45

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye downed Redwood Valley 57-45 in a nonconference girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Taylor Berkner led Sleepy Eye with 21 points, 13 rebounds and three steals, while Jaelynn Schauman had 13 points, 11 rebounds and three steals. Jace Schauman added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists, and Alexis Hoffman had 10 points and four rebounds.

Sleepy Eye (2-1) hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s next Tuesday.

USC 64, Nicollet 63

WELLS — United South Central edged Nicollet 64-63 in a nonconference girls basketball game on Monday.

Cheyenne Klockziem led the Raiders with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Jazmyn Goettlicher had 12 points and eight rebounds. Megan Soosta added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Nicollet (1-2) plays at Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Monday.

BOYS HOCKEY

Waseca 6, New Ulm 5 (OT)

WASECA – Waseca defeated New Ulm 6-5 in overtime in a Big South Conference boys hockey game on Tuesday.

Waseca outshot New Ulm 39-35 in the game and got its overtime goal from August Hansen at 3:34 of the OT period.

New Ulm trailed 5-2 in the second period, but got a goal from Jaxon Saenz before the period ended and then tied it up late in the third on goals from Carsten Haala and Hunter Larson to help send the game to overtime.

Also scoring goals for New Ulm was Melvin Sellner and Carson Uecker. Larson and Saenz also each had an assist, while Bodey Hagberg and Trevan Thordson had an assist. Bobby Rewitzer and Kayden Klein each had two assists for New Ulm.

Blaine Arneson stopped 33 shots in net for the Eagles.
