Springfield 8, Madelia 1
MANKATO -- The No. 2-seeded Springfield Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back as they downed No. 4-seeded Madelia 8-1 in a Section 2A Baseball Tournament elimination game at Mankato East's Wolverton Field.
Adiel Trevino led the Tigers bats, going 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, while Russell Beers was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Kade Nachreiner added a double also for Springfield, while Noah Mueller was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Jackson Ludewig had an RBI.
Nachreiner got the complete-game win on the mound, allowing five hits and no walks for one earned run while striking out nine.
Evan Coil led Madelia by going 3 for 3 with a triple, while Dalton Tatro added a double and Zach Jacobs was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Jacobs took the loss in 2 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and a walk for seven runs, three earned, while striking out three.
Madelia finishes 15-7, while Springfield moves to 16-5 and will play Mankato Loyola on Tuesday in the elimination semifinals back at Wolverton Field, with the winner playing Sleepy Eye later that night for the chance to go to Thursday's section final.
Loyola 10, St. Mary's 6
MANKATO -- No. 6-seeded Sleepy Eye St. Mary's fell 10-6 to No. 8-seeded Mankato Loyola on Saturday at Mankato East's Wolverton Field in a Section 2A Baseball Tournament elimination game.
Talan Helget took the loss for the Knights, going 5 1/3 inning and allowing five walks and no hits for four runs, two earned. Wyatt Pollard pitched the remaining 5 2/3 innings in relief and allowed nine hits and a walk for six runs, five earned, while striking out six.
Kessler Severson led the Knights at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a triple and three runs scored, while Landry Folkens was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Eli Christensen was 1 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Merrick Mathiowetz added a double.
The Knights finish their season 12-12, while Loyola moves on to the elimination bracket semifinals Tuesday.
