NEW ULM — The New Ulm boys tennis team defeated Mankato East 5-2 on Thursday in a nonconference tennis meet at New Ulm High School.
New Ulm got three wins in singles action, starting with Charlie Weidman at No. 1 singles. Weidman defeated Guillaume Bibbee 6-1, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, Dan Brownfield got a 6-2, 6-3 win over Siale (Jace) Dreshcer-Tonga, while Nicolas Del Castillo Diez won for New Ulm at No. 3 singles, defeating Jack Julian 6-1, 6-3.
New Ulm’s No. 1 doubles team of Ian Schotzko and Eli Dorschner defeated Ibrahim Ibrahim and Vauhn Wernsing 6-3, 6-3, while New Ulm’s No. 2 doubles team of Wyatt Feucht and Thomas Lehne defeated Jon Bergquist and Marshall Sipe 6-4, 6-1.
PREP SOFTBALL
New Ulm 11,
Worthington 1 (5 innings)
WORTHINGTON — New Ulm rolled by Worthington 11-1 in five innings in a Big South Conference softball game on Thursday.
Ramsey Hopp earned the win, pitching two perfect innings with four strikeouts. Miley Flor pitched three innings in relief, striking out three and allowing one run on two hits and a walk.
At the plate for the Eagles, Lauren Schmiesing was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Kenzie Enter was 2 for 3 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Hopp and Flor each had a hit, with Hop collecting two RBIs and Flor earning one, while Gracie Baker was 2 for 3 with a double, two steals and two runs scored and Berkley Wilfahrt was 2 for 3 with an RBI, a run scored and two steals.
New Ulm (9-2) start the Mankato East Tournament at Caswell Park on Friday at 5 p.m.
BLHS 15, MVL 5

HECTOR — Minnesota Valley Lutheran fell to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 15-5 in six innings in a nonconference softball game Thursday.
Katlyn Stadick took the loss for MVL, striking out three while allowing five runs, four earned on three hits and two walks in 2 1/3 innings. Nora Grace Otto pitched three innings for MVL, striking out two and allowing 10 runs, two earned, on seven hits and five walks.
At the plate for MVL, Morgan Black, Karlee Prahl, Avery Menk and Taryn Gunderson each had a hit, with Otto, Menk, Prahl and Grace Onken driving in a run each.
MVL (3-15) plays at Le Sueur-Henderson on Tuesday.
MCW 10, Nicollet 9
NICOLLET — Martin County West defeated Nicollet 10-9 in a Valley Division softball game on Thursday.
Leah Bode took the loss for the Raiders, striking out four while allowing four earned runs on nine hits and five walks. At the plate, Lydia Martens was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Chloe Kachelmeier had a hit and three RBIs with a runs scored. Madison Kettner was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Taylor Wilking had a hit and two RBIs.
Nicollet (8-5, 4-2) hosts Waterville-Elysian-Moristown on Saturday.

ST. CLAIR — St. Clair/Mankato Loyola downed Madelia 10-9 in a nonconference softball game on Thursday.
Peyton Bruns took the loss for Madelia, striking out two while allowing 10 runs, eight earned, on 14 hits and one walk. At the plate, Bruns was 3 for 5 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Veronica Ibeling was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Madelyn Lehman was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Libby Jensen and Lauryn Grev each had a hit and an RBI.
Madelia (4-13) hosts United South Central on Friday.

WINDOM — Windom Area downed Springfield 10-0 in six innings in a nonconference softball game on Thursday.
Regan Beadell took the loss for Springfield, striking out three and allowing 10 runs, five earned, on 10 hits and five walks. At the plate, Jada Reese was 2 for 3, while Beadell added a hit.
Springfield (5-13) plays a doubleheader at New Ulm Cathedral on Monday.
PREP BASEBALL
Madelia 4, Loyola 0
SEARLES — Madelia shut out Mankato Loyola 4-0 in a Valley Division baseball game on Thursday.
Tanner Backer earned the complete-game shutout, striking out 13 and allowing two hits and four walks in six innings. At the plate, Zach Jacobs was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, while Miah Garza was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Noel Davilla had a hit and a run scored.
Madelia (10-5, 5-2) hosts New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva on Saturday.
PREP GOLF
New Ulm boys take 2nd at Redwood invite
REDWOOD FALLS — The New Ulm boys team scored a 321 to place second in a prep golf invite against Redwood Falls on Thursday.
St. Peter won the boys’ meet with a 316. The New Ulm girls placed fourth with a 466, following Fairmont (394), St. Peter (422), Redwood Valley (437).
Jaxon Buegler led the New Ulm boys, scoring a 77 to place third. Mason Buegler placed fourth (78), while Brecken Neuman placed sixth (81) and Colton Anderson placed ninth (85). Brandt Munson took 12th (86), while Brayden Wendinger took 14th (90).
Maddy Wellmann paced the New Ulm girls with a personal-best score of 103, placing fifth in the meet. Rory Juberien placed 12th with a 111, also a personal best, while Brogan Thordson placed 17th (212) and Lydia Osborne placed 20th (131).
PREP TRACK AND FIELD
New Ulm boys, River Valle girls triumph at River Valley meet
SLEEPY EYE — New Ulm won the boys’ side and River Valley won the girls’ side of a prep track and field meet on Thursday.
New Ulm won the meet with a score of 84, followed by River Valley (47), Wabasso (45) and Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther (14).
The River Valley girls led with a score of 89.5, followed by New Ulm (59.5), Wabasso (22) and GHEC/T/ML (18).
For the New Ulm boys, Jamsion Portner took first in the 100 (11.42), while George Gag took first in the 200 (23.29) and first in the 400 (52.06). The New Ulm boys 4×100 relay team of Isaac Friese, Hunter Heil, Jackson Ocampo and Jamison Portner took first (45.22). The New Ulm boys 4×200 relay team of Joseph Wise, Jace Lohman, Charles Gag and Hunter Heil took first (1:40:00). Sammuel Ibberson won the shot put (41-6), while Jonathan Wolkow won the discus (128-3), Preston Holberg won the high jump (5-6), Joshua Gordon took first in the pole vault (9-6) and Holberg took first in the long jump (19-1.5).
The River Valley boys saw Matthew Groebner win the 800 (2:05.13), while the 4×100 relay team of Gianluka Fernandez, Lucas Hensch, Noah Christensen and Groebner took first (3:32.02). The 4×800 relay team of Gianluka Fernandez, Matthew Fernandez, Dylan Dewitt and Christensen took first (8:56.88).
For the Wabasso boys, Ty Bernardy took first in the 1,600 (5:20.25), while Andrew Morin took first in the 3,200 (10:51.22) and Tyson Lightfoot took first in the 110-meter hurdles (17.5) and first in the 300 hurdles (45.74). Tavyn Larson won the triple jump (39-1.5).
For the River Valley girls, Marley Hewitt won the 200 (26.73), and the 400 (1:02.05), while Marissa Pabst won the 800 (2:32.51). Emma Hagen won the 3,200 (13:36.09), Millie Lax won the 100-meter hurdles (17.36), and Katie Thram won the 300-meter hurdles (49.33). The 4×100 relay team of Yessenia Fernandez, Brynne Ibberson, Yanellie Fernandez and Leah Kucera placed first (53.04), as did the 4×200 relay team of Yessenia Fernandez, Liana Kimbrough, Ibberson and Lydia Dauer (1:56.78). Hewitt, Thram, Pabst and Ibberson won the 4×400 relay (4:21.53), and Emmie McCone, Ali Almanza, Pabst and Dauer won the 4×800 (10:56.54). Hewitt also won the long jump (16-7).
For the New Ulm girls, Amelia Hinkle won the 1,600 (6:01.28), while Elizabeth Dake won in discus (98-7). Jaslyn Skoglund won the high jump (4-10.5), and Sophia Berger won the pole vault (9-6) and triple jump (31-4.5).
Madelyn Fogelson won the shot put for the Wabasso girls (30-11).
