Area roundup: Knights come back to beat Blackhawks

St. Mary’s 3, Madelia 1

MADELIA — After dropping the first set of Monday night’s Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover volleyball match, Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s took the next three sets over Madelia for a 23-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-15 win.

St. Mary’s was led by Josie Helget’s 36 set assists. Reese Hoffmann had 15 kills also for the Knights, while Morgan Mathiowetz had 10 kills, Ella Pollard had seven aces on 10 serves and Natalie Fischer had 20 digs.

Madelia was led by Ashlynn Sweet’s 10 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and two aces, while Lauryn Grev has four kills and 15 digs, Payton Bruns had 13 digs and Alicia Lugo had 14 set assists.

St. Mary’s (19-4) hosts Cedar Mountain on Tuesday night, while Madelia (10-13-1) is at Springfield Friday night.

Cedar Mountain 3, GHEC/T/ML 0

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain shut out Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 25-21, 25-20, 25-23 on Monday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover volleyball match.

Reagyn Kleinschmidt led the way for the Cougars in victory with 11 kills, 12 set assists and 10 digs, while Kendra Erickson had 10 kills, seven set assists and 14 digs. Aubrey Steffl also had four kills and 14 digs for Cedar Mountain, while Brynn Hoffbeck had 10 digs, Sami Gruendemann had five kills and Cloey Wildt had three kills and 10 digs.

Cedar Mountain (14-10) is at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday.

St. Clair 3, Nicollet 0

ST. CLAIR — St. Clair swept Nicollet 25-23, 25-20, 25-14 on Monday night in a nonconference volleyball match.

Leah Bode led Nicollet with 10 kills, while Mia Lambrecht had 23 set assists and Kamryn Truebenbach had 12 digs and two aces. Megan Soost and Cheyenne Klockziem each had two blocks also for Nicollet.

Nicollet (5-17) is at Cedar Mountain next on Friday.
