PREP FOOTBALL

Springfield 32, RTR 7

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Tigers took down Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 32-7 on Friday night in a South District, West-South Subdistrict football game.

The Tigers were led by quarterback Parker Kuehn, who had 74 yards passing and a TD pass to go with a 39-yard TD run. Gavin Vanderwerf rushed for 109 yards also for Springfield, while Brayden Sturm had six receptions for 54 yards and Isaac Fredin had a 15-yard TD pass.

Madden Lendt led the Springfield defense in a big way with three interceptions, two for TDs. His first pick-6 went 31 yards, while his second went 88 yards. Sturm added two interceptions for the Springfield defense, while Vanderwerf had 11 tackles, five for a loss, Paytin Johnson had nine tackles, three for a loss, and Aiden Moriarty had eight tackles, one for a loss.

Springfield (3-0) is at Wabasso next Friday.

GFW 50, Medford 19

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop stormed past Medford 50-19 on Friday night in a Mid Southeast District, West Subdistrict football game.

GFW was led by Garrett Stegeman, who had 13 carries for 143 yards and two TDs, while Owen Swenson had 12 carries for 106 yards and a score. Reggie Mattes had 15 carries for 72 yards and three TD runs also for GFW, while Israel Ajualip had six carries for 33 yards and Mason Ahlbrecht had six carries for 29 yards and a score. Stegeman, Swenson and Ajualip also each had 2-point conversion runs. GFW quarterback Cole Jacobson also completed a pass for 38 yards to Swenson.

Ahlbrecht led GFW on defense with four tackles, while Stegeman and Mattes each added a sack and Jacobson intercepted a pass.

GFW (2-1) travels to Lester Prairie on Friday.

RRC 34, Cathedral 18

LAMBERTON — Red Rock Central took down New Ulm Cathedral 34-18 on Friday in a Nine-Man South District, West Subdistrict football game.

Josh Bentler led the Greyhounds in defeat with 13 carries for 70 yards and a 75-yard kickoff return for a TD. Jake Finstad completed 7 of 14 passes for 104 yards and a TD and had 11 carries for 44 yards and a score also for Cathedral, while Josh Forstner had two catches for 23 yards and a TD reception.

Joe Gillis and Joey Schugel were both in on 15 tackles for the Cathedral defense, while Finstad had 14 tackles and Lane Ruch had eight tackles.

Cathedral (1-2) hosts Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Friday.

Nicollet 58, BLHS 0

NICOLLET — Nicollet shutout Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 58-0 on Friday night in a Nine-Man South District, West Subdistrict football game.

Henry Oscarson had four passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown for Nicollet, while Nick Slater had two rushing touchdowns. Talan Osborne, Isaac Slater, Colton Rengstorf and Ray Busch each had a 2-point conversion.

Nicollet (2-1) is at Renville County West on Friday.

Cedar Mountain 22, RCW 19

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain defeated Renville County West 22-19 in a Nine-man South District, West Subdistrict football game on Friday.

Carson Schiller was 11 for 16 with 83 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions, while Jackson Guetter ran for 58 yards and two touchdowns, while Blake Steffl caught four balls for 34 yards and ran 13 times for 44 more yards. Aaron Heidemann had a touchdown reception.

Cedar Mountain (1-2) travels to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday.

LSH 31, MVL 20

LE SUEUR — Le Sueur-Henderson held off Minnesota Valley Lutheran 31-20 on Friday in a South District football game.

No stats were reported for the game.

MVL (2-1) is at Luverne on Friday.

Late Thursday

MVL boys sweep top 3 at Mapleton meet

MAPLETON — Minnesota Valley Lutheran took the top three spots of the boys die of the meet and four of the top eight during a prep cross country meet at Daly Park in Mapleton on Thursday.

Jeremy Feistner took first with a time of 18:54, followed by Titus Kohls (19:19) and Drew Witte (20.07). Also for MVL, Aiden Weisensel took eighth with a time of 21:22, and Tucker Kohls finished 10th with a time of 21:28.

On the girls side of the meet, Natalie Matzke placed fourth out of 37 athletes in a prep cross country meet at Daly Park on Thursday, running a time of 24:07. Faith Peters placed 12th with a time of 25:55, while Grace Peters placed 17th with a time of 26:50. Ziva Zahrt took 18th, running a 27:22.
