MANKATO — Bethany Lutheran College completed its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference baseball series sweep over Martin Luther College with a 15-3 win in seven innings Thursday at ISG Field.

The game was called after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.

BLC defeated MLC 22-5 and 13-3 in the previous two games of the series.

John Lutzi picked up the win on the mound for the Vikings, pitching all seven innings and allowing seven hits and two earned runs with six strikeouts.

Carter Seltz took the loss for the Knights, allowing four hits and six earned runs while striking out two batters in two innings. Parker Winghart went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double, and Jackson Lindemann was 2-3. Mason Cox hit a two-run home run and drew a walk, and Caleb Heckendorf added a double for MLC.

BLC scored multiple runs in four of the first five innings of the game, pushing four across the plate in the first and three more in the second. Heckendorf was able to score on the Vikings’ lone error on the day in the bottom of the second, but BLC scored twice more in the third to put the score at 9-1.

Cox pitched the Knights’ first scoreless inning in the fourth, but he struggled in the fifth as BLC scored six more.

Cox bounced back at the plate with a home run over the left-field fence, bringing Alex Ritter home with him. This ended up being the final run scored in the game as the Vikings closed out the game with two scoreless innings.
