Tim Orth All Jamboree event to be held April 5

WINTHROP — The Tim Orth Foundation has invited approximately 60 players from the Tomahawk and Red Rock Conferences to participate in the annual Tim Orth Foundation All Jamboree Basketball Game on Friday, April 5 at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop High School.

The All-Jamboree teams consist of basketball players from the two conferences. The basketball games are held in conjunction with the Tim Orth Memorial Foundation’s annual event.

As in the past, there will be two games on the night of the Jamboree. The first will feature the girls team and the second will follow with the boys team.

The school doors will open at 5 p.m. The first game will begin at approximately 6 p.m. Prior to the game, attendees will be allowed to take a group picture with all the players, mascots and Orth recipients at 5:30 p.m.

There will be concessions served all night for this event, thanks to the workers from GFW schools. The Tim Orth Foundation would also want to thank all who have given a monetary donation for this worthy cause.

The profits from this event will be given to individuals with major medical expenses that have been chosen by the Tim Orth Foundation. This year’s recipient for the Winthrop event will be Derrick Olson, son of the late Curtis Olson and Kristina Eastling of Clements. Derrick was diagnosed with fractured femur and broken wrist, as a result of a car accident in which both Derrick and his brother were injured and his father Curtis was killed in the accident, on October 15, 2023.

There are a number of special events being planned again this year. There will be a 3-point shooting contest before the games with a plaque for each of the winners. There will also be a number of professional mascots there, including the “Bear” from the Utah Jazz, as well as the Utah Jazz Dunk Team. Also returning this year is the F-M Acro team who will be doing gymnastics.

Cost is $12 for adults, and $10 for students, all of which goes to support these kids in need.

Representing the Tomahawk girls team will be GFW’s Jenna Schweiss, Katelyn Beranek, Taylor Schafer, Marti Jacobson and Halle Bleick, while Sibley East will have Morgan Bednarick, Lauren Bauer and Elizabeth Sell on the team. New Ulm Cathedral’s Jenna Hotovec, Sleepy Eye’s Brea Mertz, Wabasso’s Annabelle Struntz and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart’s Ellaina Bergstrom will round out the Tomahawk girls team.
