NEW ULM — The Martin Luther College women’s basketball team finished out its regular season with a 77-40 win over Northland College Saturday at MLC.

MLC improved to 12-13 overall, a three-win improvement from last season and the most wins the team has had since the 2015-16 season, when the Knights went 13-14.

MLC was led by a pair of seniors on their Senior Night, with Jordyn Heckendorf scoring 21 points with four assists, finishing her career with 964 points, fifth in MLC women’s basketball history, and 260 assists, good for fourth in MLC women’s basketball. Emma Nelson had 11 points and 13 rebounds, setting her season high in boards and passing Faith Schroeder for sixth-most rebounds in MLC women’s basketball history with 526.

MLC only allowed 2 points in the first quarter as the Knights jumped out to a 21-2 lead, with Heckendorf and Lydia Feidt scoring most of the points for MLC. The second quarter was more even, but MLC continued to build their lead, ending the half up 39-15.

MLC expanded their rotation in the second half, as 13 of its players scored and 15 entered the game. The Lumberjills got hotter from behind the arc in the second half, managing to finish the game 7-20 from the 3-point line, but it was not enough to cut into the lead that the Knights had built, and they came away with the big win.
