MENOMONE — The Martin Luther College women’s basketball team fell into a hole from the opening tip in its nonconference matchup with UW-Stout, and MLC was never able to capture momentum during the game and lost 106-46 on Tuesday.

The Blue Devils would never trail in the game and continued its success early in the season with a third consecutive win against UMAC opponents, with a 107-54 win over Bethany and a 75-57 victory over UW-Superior.

UW-Stout found a lot of their rhythm from deep, going 19-of-38 (50 percent) from beyond the arc. The Blue Devils were also very active on defense and forced 25 turnovers to contribute to their double-digit win.

Jordyn Heckendorf would lead MLC with 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting, while Lauren Paulsen scored nine points. The Knights also played without its key front court player, Emma Nelson, who missed her second game of the season. MLC looks to get Nelson back more consistently as the conference season ramps up.

MLC (1-5) will now face Waldorf for their second home game of the season on Friday, December 1. The Knights defeated the Warriors in back-to-back contests last season in November and hope to collect another win over the NAIA school this season. Tip off is at 7 p.m. in the LSC gymnasium.
