MLC roundup: Men’s, women’s soccer teams win
MEN’S SOCCER
MLC 4, NCU 2
MINNEAPOLIS — The Martin Luther Collge men’s soccer team defeated North Cetral University 4-2 in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference game Saturday.
Isaias Santos, Stephen Wietzke, Jake Vilhauer and Nathan Pausma got goals, while Grant Gawrisch had two assists. Johannes Bourman, Josiah Wordell and Santos each had an assist.
MLC finishes out the regular season with a 4-14-1 record.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
MLC 8, NCU 0
MINNEAPOLIS — MLC defeated North Central 8-0 in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer match Saturday.
Katie Schoeneck had a hat trick and an assist, while Lydia Krenke had two goals. Karissa Holdcroft, Madeline Waltz and Hailey Rice each had a goal, while Lilianne Zimpelmann and Kaitlin Butler had two assists each. Hailey Marohn, Rachel Schoeneck and Rice each had an assist.
MLC finishes its regualr season with a 5-11-2 record.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
UNW 21, MLC 14
ROSEVILLE — The University of Northwestern defeated Martin Luther College 21-14 in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference football game on Saturday.
Max Nordlie had 172 yards and a touchdown passing with an additional 38 yards and a TD on the ground. Rees Roecker had 56 yards rushing for MLC, while Mason Cox had 84 yards and a TD receiving. On defense, Joey Ehlke had 12 total tackles, while Thomas Balge, Ethan Melso and Andrew Raasch had a fumble recovery each. Christian Koelpin and Jacob Clarke had a sack apiece.
MLC (2-6, 2-2) hosts Minnesota Morris on Saturday.
MEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY
MLC men take 2nd at UMAC Championship
WINTHROP — The Martin Luther College men’s cross-country team finished second at the UMAC Championship on Saturday behind UW-Superior.
Senior Caleb Lash had the top finish of the event for MLC (26:58.5), giving him a sixth-place overall finish out of 64 participants.
Camden Sulzle was close behind Lash in the 8K, pacing in at 27:21.3 for a 14th-place finish overall. Junior Micah Schibbelhut took 25th with a mark of 27:38.0, while Joshua Zander crossed the finish line just after his teammate (27:39.8) to take 37th.
WOMEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY
MLC women finish 2nd at UMAC Championship
WINTHROP — The Martin Luther College women’s cross-country team earned a second-place finish on Saturday at the UMAC Championships.
UW-Superior took first at the event, while Crown took third.
Maya Habben led the way for the MLC women individually, running the 6K with a time of 24:36.7 that gave her a sixth-place overall finish out of 71 runners. Joining Habben in the top 10 was Katelyn Mensching, who clocked in at 25:00.1 for 10th place overall.
Claire Tomhave and Leah Nushart gave the Knights another pair of top-15 finishes, with Tomhave taking 12th (25:07.6) and Nushart coming in at 14th (25:12.0).
Hope Sulzle placed 19th with a mark of 26:06.5, while Liberty Vandenhuevel took 24th (26:35.1).
