Area roundup: Maple River holds off Madelia

Maple River 3, Madelia 1

MAPLETON -- Maple River held on for a 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 25-17 win over Madelia on Monday night in a nonconference volleyball match.

Madelia (4-6) was led by Ashley Sorenson's nine kills, 20 digs and 16 set assists, while Ashlynn Sweet and Katherine Devlaeminck each had six kills and two blocks. Corban Tatro added five kills and 13 digs for Madelia, while Jada Taylor had 23 digs.

Madelia will host Alden-Conger in a Valley Conference match Tuesday night.

LCWM 3, Nicollet 0

NICOLLET -- Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial swept Nicollet 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 on Monday night in a Valley Conference volleyball match.

Savannah Klockziem led the Raiders in defeat with 10 kills, while Mia Lambrecht had five. Cason Forbrook added four aces and six digs for Nicollet, while Katelyn Soost had 16 set assists, Mackenzie Regner had five aces and Leah Bode had two blocks.

Nicollet travels to Alden-Conger for a conference match on Thursday.

PREP CROSS-COUNTRY

SM/SE/NUC boys, girls take 5th in Windom

WINDOM -- The Sleepy Eye St. Mary's/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral boys and girls cross-country teams each finished fifth on Monday in a prep cross-country meet at the Windom Golf Course.

The boys race was won by Windom Area, while Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey took the girls race.

The top four runners for the SM/SE/NUC boys were Noah Christensen, who led the with an 11th-place finish (18:10.09), Raul Rodriguez (13th, 18:44.63), Kendrick Henry (27th, 19:54.27) and Derek Wales (36th, 20:56.92).

The top four runners for the SM/SE/NUC girls were Emma Hagen (17th, 24:00.03), Elle Kyllonen (19th, 24:34.39), Millie Lax (27th, 26:14.52) and Lupita Hernandez (28th, 26:46.57).
