Area Roundup: Thunderbirds pick up road win

ST. CLAIR — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated St. Clair 25-22, 25-15, 25-27, 21-25, 15-8 in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday.
Taylor Schafer had 14 kills, six aces and 10 digs for the Thunderbirds, while Marti Jacobson had 15 kills, five aces and two blocks. Trinity Stearns added five blocks, while Katelyn Beranek had 22 set assists.
GFW (1-1) travels to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday.
Nicollet 3, Loyola 1
NICOLLET — Nicollet downed Mankato Loyola 25-16, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19 Tuesday in a Valley Conference volleyball match.
Savannah Klockziem had eight kills and six aces for the Raiders, while Mia Lambrecht had 15 set assists and a block. Cason Forbrook added seven kills and six aces, while Katelyn Soost had 10 set assists and four digs.
Nicollet hosts Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman on Thursday.
Madelia 3, USC 2
MADELIA — Madelia took down United South Central 25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 22-25, 15-11 in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday.
Ashley Sorenson had 16 kills, 22 set assists, 23 digs, four aces and two total blocks in the game, while Ashlynn Sweet had 15 kills, eight digs, four total blocks and two aces. Lauryn Grev added 24 digs, five kills, three set assists and three aces and a block, while Katherine Devlaeminck had 11 total blocks, eight kills and four digs.
Madelia (3-1) hosts Cleveland on Thursday.
Sleepy Eye 3, Lester Prairie 0
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye swept Lester Prairie 25-21, 25-10, 25-20 in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday night.
Paige Haala had seven kills, 10 digs and four aces, while Breaunna Mertz added seven kills and five digs. Lydia Helget had 21 set assists, while Sam Price had six kills.
Sleepy Eye (3-0) travels to Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Thursday.
Minneota 3, Wabasso 0
WABASSO — Minneota swept Wabasso 25-15, 25-15, 25-15 on Tuesday night in a nonconference volleyball match.
Alivia Olson led the Rabbits in defeat with seven kills, nine digs and an ace, while Avery Carlson had four kills and 16 digs. Also for Wabasso, Audrey Johnson had 11 digs, Sara Carlson had 18 set assists, nine digs and two block assists and Lyla Kittelson had a solo block and a block assist.
Wabasso (2-1) is at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s for a Tomahawk Conference battle at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
GSL 3, Sibley East 0
ARLINGTON — Glencoe-Silver Lake defeated Sibley East 25-21, 25-13, 25-19 Tuesday in a nonconference volleyball match.
Sibley East was led by Brianna Kettner with seven kills. Elizabeth Sell had four kills and five digs for the Wolverines, while Karcyn Dose had four kills and two aces. Lainey Brandt added 19 set assists, two kills and an ace, while Rachelle Wear had three kills and two blocks.
Sibley East hosts Mayer Lutheran on Thursday.
BOYS SOCCER
Marshall 3, New Ulm 1
MARSHALL — The Marshall Tigers topped the New Ulm Eagles 3-1 on Tuesday night in a Big South Conference boys soccer game.
New Ulm got its goal from Jackson Ocampo on an assist by Dominick Kamrath at 26:16 of the second half. Ethan Goff had seven saves in net for New Ulm, while the Eagles took 17 shots.
New Ulm is at Worthington for a 7 p.m. game Thursday.
