Chaska rallies, drops New Ulm VFW Gold from Second District tournament

MANKATO — New Ulm VFW Gold lost a 5-1 lead in the seventh inning, falling to Chaska 6-5 to be eliminated from the Second District VFW Baseball Tournament Friday at Wolverton Field.
Graham Glaser took the loss for Gold, giving up four earned runs on three hits in 1/3 of an inning. Kaden Peterson started the game, getting four strikeouts while allowing three earned runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings.
At the plate for New Ulm, Caleb Forstner was 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Jaxon Buegler was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Elliot Schaebert was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a double.
Gold opened the scoring with Ben Alfred driving in Buegler with a single in the first. Chaska brought home a run in the second to tie the game up.
The game stayed knotted up until the fifth inning when New Ulm scored four runs, with Buegler picking up an RBI and Schaebert getting a two-RBI double to give Gold a 5-1 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, Peterson allowed two runners on base before he hit the 115-pitch limit, ending his game and bringing in Glaser with two outs left in the game.
Chaska rallied, scoring five runs, with a sacrifice fly to right field bringing home the winning score.
