Sleepy Eye rolls by Windom, advances to Sub-State finals
ST. JAMES — Sleepy Eye Post 7 rolled to an 8-1 win over Windom on Saturday night in the Division II Southwest Sub-State American Legion Baseball Tournament at Veterans Park.
The win moves Sleepy Eye one win away from advancing to the DII state tournament in Roseau.
Sleepy Eye now awaits its next opponent for an 11 a.m. game Saturday.
Sleepy Eye will play the elimination bracket winner Saturday. MN Lake/Maple River will play St. James at 5 p.m. Friday, with the winner playing Windom that night and the winner playing against Sleepy Eye on Saturday.
Sleepy Eye racked up 14 hits in the win Saturday, getting two hits apiece from Talan Helget, Arian Saenz, Caden Evers, Cody Schultz, Owen Weiss and Jon Petermann. Evers and Weiss each had two RBIs also, while Austin Uecker had a hit and two RBIs.
Nick Mielke got the complete-game win, allowing four hits and two walks for one earned run while fanning seven.
