PREP SOFTBALL
New Ulm 3, Mankato West 1
MANKATO -- New Ulm held off Mankato West 3-1 on Monday in a nonconference softball game.
Ramsey Hopp got the complete-game win, giving up five hits and no walks with five strikeouts. Lauren Schmiesing was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored to lead the Eagles at the plate, while Kenzie Enter was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Hopp was 2 for 4 also, while Calyn Glaser was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
The Eagles are at Marshall for a 5 p.m. game Tuesday.
Sleepy Eye 11, Redwood Valley 8
REDWOOD FALLS -- Sleepy Eye took down Redwood Valley 11-8 Monday in a nonconference softball game.
Katelyn Tauer got the win in the circle for the Indians. Paige Haala led Sleepy Eye at the plate, getting a double, a run scored and three RBIs. Brooke Arneson was 1 for 3 with two runs scored, while Lydia Helget was 1 for 3 with two runs scored. Jade Sellner was 1 for 2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Sleepy Eye will host Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Wednesday.
Springfield 18, RRC/WWG 0 (3 innings)
WALNUT GROVE -- Springfield rolled past Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 18-0 in three innings of nonconference softball action on Monday.
Jalivia Richert got the win in the circle for the Tigers, gettin six strikeouts and allowing one hit in three innings. Maddy Digmann was 2 for 2 with a double, four runs scored and two RBIs, while Brenna Pabst was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Astrid Ramirez had a triple, three RBIs and a run scored, while Richert was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Springfield is scheduled to host Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Wabasso 4, RTR 2
WABASSO -- Wabasso topped Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 4-2 on Monday in a nonconference softball game.
Avery Carlson was 1 for 2 with a triple and two RBIs to lead Wabasso, while Sophia Hanna, Kelsey Frank and Callie Burns all singled. Carlson also got the complete-game win, giving up four hits and two walks for two unearned runs while striking out 12.
Wabasso travels to Harman Park in New Ulm on Tuesday for a Tomahawk Conference game with New Ulm Cathedral.
St. Mary's 19, GFW 2 (4 innings)
St. Mary's 15, GFW 0 (4 innings)
WINTHROP -- Sleepy Eye St. Mary's rolled to a pair of four-inning wins in a Tomahawk Conference softball doubleheader on Monday, defeating Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 19-2 and 15-0.
In the Game 1 win, Allie Labat was 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Lacey Mathiowetz was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Bella Hoffmann was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Kallie Zarn was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Gracie Sellner was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Mathiowetz got the win in the circle, giving up two hits and no walks while fanning seven.
In Game 1, Halle Bleick took the loss for GFW, giving up 12 hits and four walks while striking out two. Madalyn Lee and Ashlynn Hubred got hits for GFW.
In Game 2, St. Mary's was again led by Labat, who was 2 for 2 with a triple, an RBI and a walk, while Mathiowetz was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Josie Helget doubled and added an RBI, while Kallie Zarn had two RBIs off of two sac flys. Mathiowetz got the win again in the circle, allowing one hit and a walk with seven strikeouts.
Isabella Trebelhorn took the loss for GFW.
MCW 10, Nicollet 6
NICOLLET -- Martin County West topped Nicollet 10-6 on Monday in a Valley Conference softball game.
Izzy Torgerson was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored to lead the Raiders, while Morgan Arndt was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Leah Bode was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored also for Nicollet, while Emma Drill was 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Drill took the loss in all seven innings, allowing five earned runs while striking out three.
PREP BASEBALL
St. Mary's 12, GFW 0 (5 innings)
FAIRFAX -- Sleepy Eye St. Mary's shut out Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 12-0 on Monday in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game.
Jon Petermann was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored to lead St. Mary's at the plate, while Mark Anderson was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Talan Helget was 1 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Owen Weiss got the win in five innings, giving up one hit and striking out six without allowing a walk.
Dylan Bernstein got GFW's lone hit of the game, while Owen Swenson took the loss in four innings, allowing five hits and four walks for three earned runs while striking out four.
GFW (2-9) hosts Springfield in a doubleheader on Tuesday in Fairfax, while St. Mary's (10-4) hosts Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther on Thursday.
Northfield 4, New Ulm 0
NORTHFIELD -- Northfield shut out New Ulm 4-0 on Monday in a nonconference baseball game.
Ethan Thompson, Parker Neubauer and Jaxon Buegler each had a single for New Ulm.
Blaine Olson pitched 5 1/3 innings for New Ulm, allowing five hits and a walk for three earned runs while striking out two. Lucas Suess pitched 2/3 innings and allowed two hits and a walk for one earned run.
PREP GOLF
New Ulm boys take 9th, girls 11th at Big South meet
MORTON -- The New Ulm boys golf team took ninth, while the girls team took 10th on Monday in the Big South Conference Championship at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club.
The boys finished with a 348, while the girls scored a 501. Luverne won the boys conference title with a 303, while the Redwood Valley won the girls title with a 339.
The New Ulm boys were led by Mason Buegler's 83, which tied hm for 19th, while Brayden Wendinger shot an 86 to tie for 32nd and Will Fossen turned in an 88 to tie for 41st.
The New Ulm girls were led by Elyse Dreckman, who shot a 108 to tie for 34th, while Brooklyn Hagberg shot a 119 to take 48th.
PREP TRACK AND FIELD
River Valley boys 71, MVL/NUC 63, GFW 47
River Valley girls 105, MVL/NUC 44, GFW 33
SLEEPY EYE -- The River Valley boys and girls track and field team earned wins on Monday in a home track and field meet with Minnesota Valley Lutheran and Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.
For the boys, GFW's Justin Messner won the 100-meter dash (11.86) and the 200 (24.32), while MVL/NUC's Justin Thompson won the 400 (53.5). River Valley saw Raul Rodriguez win the 800 (2:12.13), Noah Christensen win the 1,600 (5:03.22) and Levi Hagen win the 3,200 (11:46.62).
In the boys 110 and 300 hurdles, River Valley's Kaden Ryer won (16.04; 43.55), while the River Valley 4×100 relay team of CJ Surprenant, Ryer, Nolan Weicherding and Jake Heinrichs won (47.28). The MVL/NUC boys 4×200 relay team of Will Kaesermann, Jared Frey, Josh Bentler and Ben Halvorson won (1:36.76), while River Valley saw Heinrichs, Nathan Sandrgen, Rodriguez and Lucas Hensch win the 4×400 relay (3:46.53) and Rodriguez, Hensch, Matthew Groebner and Christensen win the 4×800 relay (9:13.44).
GFW's Alex Johnson won the boys shot put (48-7) and discus (146-2), while GFW's Brennir Peterson won the high jump (5-10), MVL/NUC's Halvorson won the long jump (18-4.5) and MVL/NUC's Kaesermann won the triple jump (39-1).
River Valley's Toby Hagen won the wheelchair discus (35-0), wheelchair shot put (12-5), wheelchair 200 (59.4) and wheelchair 100 (29.89).
For the girls, River Valley's Hailey Hollar won the 100, 200 and long jump (13.03; 27.82; 14-8.5), while River Valley's Brynne Ibberson won the 400 (1:02.6), Marissa Pabst won the 800 (2:31.48) and Olivia Milbrath won the 1,600 (6:07.75). GFW's Madyson Steele took first in the 3,200 (12:32.78).
In the girls 100 hurdles, River Valley's Ellarie Blomeke won (18.64), while River Valley's Katie Thram won the 300 hurdles (48.75). The River Valley 4×100 relay team of Erika Wells, Hollar, Blomeke and Yanellie Fernandez won (53.92), while the MVL/NUC 4×200 relay team of Averyelle Hopp, Claudia Weisensel, Taylor Sommer and Emily Brown won (1:53.8). The River Valley 4×400 relay team of Pabst, Emmie McCone, Thram and Ibberson won (4:26.52), while the River Valley girls 4×800 relay team of Pabst, Skyla Dauer, McCone and Ibberson won (10:42.11). MVL/NUC's Mackenzie Frank won the shot put (28-11), while River Valley's Yuridia Fernandez won the discus (85-7). River Valley's Abby Schwartz won the high jump (4-8) and Leah Kucera won the triple jump (29-10.5).

Red Wing 10, New Ulm 2
ST. CLOUD -- New Ulm dropped a pair of games at a prep baseball tournament in St. Cloud on Saturday, falling 16-3 in five innings to Rocori and 10-2 to Red Wing.
Parker Neubauer led New Ulm against Rocori, going 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Ethan Thompson was 1 for 2 with an RBI and Kyle Albrecht doubled and scored a run. Jaxson Buegler took the loss for New Ulm in two innings of relief.
Against Red Wing, Ian Brudelie was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI to lead the Eagles, while Thompson and Neubauer each went 2 for 4, with Thompson adding an RBI. Ben Hohensee took the loss in four innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one.
