Area roundup: Hoffmann hits 1,000 career set assists in 5-set win for Knights

LE SUEUR — Sleepy Eye St. Marys’ Bella Hoffmann reached 1,000 career set assists on Monday night as the Knights held off Le Sueur/Henderson for a 25-23, 25-14, 20-25, 20-25, 15-12 five-set win in a nonconference volleyball match.

Hoffmann needed 18 set assists to reach the milestone and finished the night with 18 exactly. She also had 11 kills and 14 digs, while Jaci Domeier had 15 kills, 12 digs and two blocks. Jenica Schroepfer had 15 digs and seven kills also for the Knights.

St. Mary’s (11-1) hosts Sleepy Eye High School (10-2) in a cross-town Tomahawk Conference battle at 7 p.m. on Thursday night.

GROVE CITY — Cedar Mountain swept Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 25-23, 25-15, 25-19 on Monday night in nonconference volleyball action.

Teresa Larsen led the Cougars with 17 kills and three blocks, while Hailey Hollar finished with 10 kills, 14 digs and two blocks. Nadia Meyers controlled the Cedar Mountain offense with 31 set assists and also added five kills, four block assists and eight digs, while Aubrey Steffl added five kills, four block assists and 12 digs, Lauren Baringer had 13 digs, Mykenna Vollmer had nine digs and Kylie Koerner added five digs.

Cedar Mountain (10-3) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

MVL goes 2-4 at

USC tourney

WELLS — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran went 2-4 at a United South Central round-robin volleyball tournament on Saturday.

Leading MVL overall on the day was Ava Munsen, who had 21 kills and five aces, while Gabbie Bleick had 16 kills, 15 digs and two aces. Kerigan Brau had 37 set assists and two aces also for the Chargers, who are now 2-15 on the year.

MVL travels to New Ulm Cathedral for a 7:30 p.m. Tomahawk Conference match on Tuesday.

CHANHASSEN — Chanhassen shut out New Ulm 7-0 on Monday in a nonconference girls tennis meet.

The Eagles host Belle Plaine on Thursday.
