MAYER — The defending Class A champion Mayer Lutheran football team downed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 32-6 on Friday night in a Mid Southeast District football game

The Thunderbirds’ lone touchdown of the game came on an 81-yard kickoff return by Justin Messner. GFW was held to 87 yards of offense, while Mayer Lutheran had 335 yards.

Messner ran for 35 yards on 14 carries to lead GFW on offense, while Garret Schmidt carried the ball 14 times for 27 yards.

Dylan Bernstein led GFW on defense with six total tackles, while Dominic Rose had 5 1/2 total tackes and Tristian Kruger had two tackles for a loss.

Jack Grimsley carried the Mayer Lutheran offense with 170 yards rushing and a TD on 21 carries.

Edgerton 48, Madelia 16

MADELIA — Edgerton downed Madelia 48-16 on Friday night in 9-man, South District football action.

Carter Florez was 10 for 23 with 169 yards, one TD and three interceptions. LynTavius Graves had 85 total yards of offense and a TD for Madelia, while Eric Anderson had 79 total yards of offense and Logan Slater had 68 total yards of offense.

Late Thursday

Canby 36, Wabasso 0

CANBY — Canby shut out Wabasso 36-0 on Thursday night in a prep football game.

Adryen Tietz completed 8 of 16 passes for 22 yards and two interceptions for the Rabbits while rushing for 38 yards on seven carries. Noah Anderson had five catches for 31 yards also for Wabasso on offense.

Tietz also led the Rabbits on defense with 10 total tackles, while Joe Liebl had seven total tackles and 1 1/2 tackles for a loss.

PREP VOLLEYBALL

Wabasso 3,

Dawson-Boyd 0

DAWSON — Wabasso moved to 3-0 on the season with a 25-22, 25-13, 25-22 sweep of Dawson-Boyd on Friday night in nonconference volleyball action.

Alivia Olson led the Rabbits with 11 kills, eight digs and two solo blocks, while Avery Carlson added 10 kills, 11 digs and two aces. Kelsey Frank had 29 set assists and two aces also for the Rabbits, while Audrey Johnson had 14 digs and Sara Carlson had three aces.

Wabasso is at Minneota for a nonconference matchup on Tuesday night.
