NEW ULM — The team of Dan Enter, Jerry Boddy, Chad Cooreman, Doug Bode and Kevin Loverude took first on Monday at the B&L Golf Classic.

The team finished with a 124, two strokes better than the team of Tom Steinbach, Joe Hoffmann, Jon Hunstad, Don Olson and Kyle Marti.

Cooreman, who was participating in his third consecutive B&L Golf Classic, said that the team played well together.

“Jerry Boddy had a good strategy to start us out,” Cooreman said. “We kind of figured out who was going to choke each hole and all of our chokers played really well. We went for the eagles, we got the birdies, we got pars when we needed them. The greens were tough today, we had a few putts that kind of just sat right on the edge, but we made putts when we needed to and it was totally a team effort.

“Kevin Loverude did a great job today. He was our D player and when we needed him choking, he did really well. And that was me last year in this tournament because [my team] won this tournament last year. I had a lot of dots on that, so it was good to see the format and everybody struck the ball well.”

Cooreman won this tournament last year with Ryan Dorn, Nick Metzker, Ron Schmitz and Duane Ristau.

Cooreman said that he’s already looking forward to next year’s tournament but joked that he’s not looking to have a target on his back either.

“I’m gonna come back for sure, but it’s all based on handicap, all based on blind draw, so it is what it is, you go from there,” Cooreman said. “I don’t want people to put a target on my back and say, ‘Mr. Cooreman is the guy,’ [laughs]. … But our team did really well. Like I said, we strategized really well, everybody came in clutch when they needed to, and it was totally a team effort today. I’m not going to take credit, because the putting was good when we needed it.”

This year brought cooler temperatures to the B&L Golf Classic, a welcome change for the golfers. The high was 90 F in New Ulm during last year’s B&L Golf Classic, while this year’s temperature topped out at 76 F.

The team of Nate Voges, Josh Holm, Dean Warta, John Rieger and Gary Kruggel finished third with a 127, while the team of Jeff Ferrell, Rick Hulke, Larry Hildebrandt, Bernie Lacher and Dave Rosenhammer took fourth with a 128. Mark Chester, Rick Jensen, Kyle Duxbury, Dave Hirth and Jamie Johnson took fifth (128), while Shayne Johnson, Shawn Scherer, Dave Brown, Bruce Gieseke and Paul Maday took sixth (128).

The team of Bob Roth, Brent Reinarts, Tom Portner, Mark Newman and Dave Christianson took seventh (130), while Eldy Jones, Riley Hulke, Dan Drexler, Gregg Holm and Corrie Tews took eighth (130).
