MINNETONKA -- New Ulm VFW Gold had a tough first day at a VFW Baseball Tournament in Minnetonka on Thursday, being shut out by Hopkins 11-0 and Renner, SD, 8-0.
Against Hopkins, Adam Wiltscheck was 2 for 2 to lead VFW Gold, while Zach Riederer was 1 for 2. Blaine Olson took the loss in two innings for VFW Gold, giving up six hits and three walks for seven earned runs while striking out two.
Against Renner, Wiltscheck and Lucas Suess each had a single for VFW Gold. Suess took the loss on the mound in four innings, giving up eight hits and a pair of walks for one earned run while fanning three.
