NEW ULM -- Minnesota Valley Lutheran's Jim Buboltz has worn many hats for the school.
He has been head football coach for 22 years,as well as Dean of Students at MVL for 20 years.
And for the past three seasons, Buboltz has worn the cap of head baseball coach.
But now with the Chargers' baseball postseason run, Buboltz will take off the baseball cap and take on one of the biggest projects for Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School.
"I am going to take on the new position of Director of Mission Advancement here at MVL starting on July 1," Buboltz said.
"But I will still be head football coach and be Dean of Students for the next year. I will be taking a one-year hiatus from teaching at MVL."
Buboltz said that his new position as Director of Mission Advancement initially begins with a capital campaign.
"We have hopes of improving our school, adding on to our school in the area of Science and updating our science classrooms and then updating our current gym into performing arts center and then adding a new field house," he said. "There are four pieces to the project with a new entry way, the field house, the science classroom and performing arts center.
"The new field house is the biggest piece, but for us the science classroom definitely has to be the most important piece to this -- the education of our students has to come first. They need that space right now because we have such an interest the engineering field with our students at school right now with things like Robotics and other phases of science are really getting bigger."
Buboltz said that proposed expansion at MVL would mean "branching out to the north off of where we did the addition in 2005 and then connecting that to the west to where the practice baseball and softball fields are."
Buboltz said that there is a drawing made up of a proposed new field house that would consist of three full-sized basketball courts.
"We can then have the availability for our kids to all practice early so that there are no late practices so they can all be home at a decent time, especially with some of our students traveling the distances they travel.
"There are a lot of great courts in our area like St. Peter and like New Ulm where there is the possibility to play double varsity activities at school. There are a lot of great possibilities when we have that space."
Buboltz is eager to get started.
"I look forward to working with our campaign committees and bring this group together and see if we can leave a legacy for the next 40-plus years of school at MVL."
Buboltz said that the enrollment at MVL has been growing consistently in recent years.
Buboltz said that the proposal is up for a vote on June 12. If passed, the campaign will be relaunched and bids will be collected.
