Cox leads 3 All-UMAC baseball honorees

NEW ULM -- Three Martin Luther College baseball players received All-UMAC recognition from the conference on Tuesday. Mason Cox was named First Team All-UMAC, while Zach Klement and Spencer Lilienthal were named Honorable Mention All-UMAC.

Cox earned the honor in the outfield after a record-breaking sophomore season in which he set new MLC single-season records in batting average (.476) and on-base percentage (.540). His .476 batting average led the UMAC and ranks fifth in all of NCAA Division III, while his on-base percentage (OBP) led the conference and tied for 23rd nationally.

Cox finished the season as the Knights' leader in batting average, OBP, home runs (two), doubles (10), stolen bases (six) and slugging percentage (.629).

Klement received honorable mention as a utility player after hitting .295 with four doubles at the plate to go with a 1-3 record on the mound with two complete games, including a nine-inning shutout over UW-Superior on April 24.

In UMAC play, Klement hit .292 at the plate with a 7.18 earned run average (ERA) on the mound.

Lilienthal was named honorable mention after starting 23 games at shortstop with a .295 batting average, 16 runs scored and four doubles.

In conference play, Lilienthal improved his average to .328 in 17 games with 12 runs scored while playing strong defense at shortstop.

Jonas Lindemann was named the MLC recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, given to one player on each team who best exemplifies sportsmanship during the season.
