NEW ULM -- The Martin Luther College softball team dropped both games of its first home doubleheader of the season to UW-Superior (UWS) by the scores of 11-3 and 10-6 on Monday.

Game 1

UWS 11, MLC 3

The Yellowjackets jumped in front early and never gave in to win the opener 11-3.

UWS scored three runs in both the first and fourth innings, and then capped the scoring with a four-run seventh frame. The Yellowjackets recorded 11 hits in the game, but four MLC miscues allowed for six of the 11 runs to be unearned.

The Knights got on the board with one run in the sixth, and then added two more in the seventh with the help of two Elena Hoffman RBI singles.

Madison Uhlenbrauck (0-5) started the game and took the loss for MLC, allowing seven runs (two earned) in five innings.

Game 2

UWS 10, MLC 6

The Knights were unable to hold onto a late lead as UWS scored seven times in the top of the seventh inning to score a 10-6 come from behind win.

UWS once again jumped out to a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning, but the Knights came back to score four runs in the second frame to take a 4-2 lead. Jordyn Heckendorf had the big two-run single, and also came around to score on a throwing error later in the inning.

The Knights held onto a 4-3 lead through six innings, but the Yellowjackets responded for seven runs in their final at bat. An MLC error contributed to the inning, as Uhlenbrauck (0-6) allowed seven runs (one earned) on five hits in the inning in relief.

MLC scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to send the tying run to the plate, but UWS recorded the final out to secure the sweep.

Hoffman and Lexi Fischer each recorded a pair of hits for MLC in defeat.

The Knights fell to 1-11 on the season following the two losses. UWS improved to 13-5 with the two wins.
