Vikings cruise by Knights

MANKATO --The Martin Luther College baseball team lost the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opener 17-0 at Bethany Lutheran College (BLC) on Friday afternoon.

The Vikings opened the scoring with four runs in the second inning off MLC starting pitcher Sam Rodriguez (0-2), and then put the game away with an 11-run fifth inning against the Knights' bullpen.

Rodriguez had good moments in the start with three strikeouts in four innings, but allowed five runs on four hits and four walks in defeat.

Zach Klement and Jackson Lindemann recorded the two MLC hits on the day, but the Knights were held off the scoreboard while leaving five runners on base.

MLC dropped to 0-11 on the season and 0-1 in UMAC play in defeat. BLC improved to 5-7 overall and 1-0 in league play in defeat.

The Knights are scheduled to host Crown College on Sunday afternoon for a doubleheader.
