MLC has 3 track and field athletes honored by UMAC

NEW ULM -- Three Martin Luther College track and field athletes were honored by the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference on Monday.

For the MLC men, Joseph Ehlke and Lucas Martin were named UMAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week.

Ehlke was named Field Athlete of the Week, while Martin took home Track Athlete of the Week honors.

Both athletes won the honors after competing against high level competition, as the Wayne State meet featured athletes from NCAA Division I, Division II, and NAIA.

Ehlke won his award in his collegiate debut thanks to a first-place finish in the Triple Jump with a top jump of 12.26 meters. He also finished fifth in the Long Jump with a top jump of 6.06 meters.

On the track, Martin showcased his speed with an eighth-place finish in a deep 100 Meter Dash field following a time of 11.59. Martin also led off the 4×100 Meter Relay team that finished second in that event, and tied for sixth place in the High Jump with a top jump of 1.65 meters.

Martin, Ehlke and the Knights will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Minnesota Morris.

For the MLC women, first-year student-athlete Grace Seim was named UMAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week for track and field.

Seim received the honor following her first collegiate meet in the team's 2022 outdoor opener at Wayne State College (Neb.).

Competing against athletes from NCAA Division I, Division II, and NAIA, Seim finished second in the High Jump with a top jump of 1.38 meters.

Seim also took home an eighth place finish in the Triple Jump with a top jump of 8.37 meters.

On the track, Seim also showed her versatility by taking part in the 4×400 Relay as part of the Knights' second team, which finished in a time of 4:47.78.

Seim and the Knights will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Minnesota Morris.
