Men's Track and Field
WAYNE, Neb. -- The Martin Luther College men's track and field team opened the 2022 outdoor season against some of the toughest competition they will face this spring at Wayne State College on Saturday.
In a field that included schools from NCAA Division I, Division II, and NAIA, the Knights still posted a strong collection of finishes to open the season as the lone NCAA Division III school in attendance.
Joseph Ehlke took home the top finish of the day for MLC, winning the Triple Jump with a top jump of 12.26 meters. Ehlke also finished fifth in the Long Jump, trailing a fourth-place finish in that event by teammate and fellow newcomer Eric Raasch.
Lucas Martin also scored a pair of strong finishes, taking eighth in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 11.59 while also tying for sixth place in the High Jump with a top jump of 1.65 meters.
Elsewhere on the track, Camden Sulzle took second place in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 11:05.47. Luke Wegner (ninth) and Nathan Pausma (10th) each finished in the top 10 in the 1500 Meters, while Pausma and Joshua Zander both took home top 20 finishes in a deep 800 Meters field.
In the throwing events, Gustav Wenz finished 23rd in the Discus, while Isaiah Hahm took 24th in the Shot Put and 27th in the Discus.
Women's Track and Field
WAYNE, Neb. -- The Martin Luther College women's track and field team started the 2022 outdoor season at Wayne State on Saturday against tough competition.
The Knights went toe-to-toe against schools from NCAA Division I, Division II, and NAIA at the event, and were still able to come away with a number of strong performances.
Margaret Gabb was the top MLC finisher on the track, taking fifth place in the 400 Meters with a time of 1:05.95.
The best collection of finishes for the Knights came in the 800 Meters, where Claire Tomhave (seventh) and Lydia Krenke (10th) both finished in the top 10, while Katelyn Mensching took 14th place.
Gabb, Tomhave, Maya Habben and Emma Nelson also took part in the 4 x 400 Meter Relay team, which took third place out of five teams.
Grace Seim (1.38 meters) and Sophia Hoppe (1.32 meters) finished second and third, respectively, in the High Jump, while Seim also finished eighth in the Triple Jump.
Isabelle Kettler record the top finish in the throwing events in 18th place in the Discus, while Nelson took 20th place in the Shot Put.
