BLUE EARTH — The New Ulm gymnastics team topped Blue Earth 136.85-131.6 on Friday night to clinch the Big South Conference East Division Championship.
The win moved the Eagles to 8-1 on the year and they will now compete in the Big South Crossover Championship on Friday in Worthington.
New Ulm’s Kayla Goblirsch finished first all-around with a 37.25. She finished first in the vault (9.3), first on bars (8.925), first on the beam (9.475) and first on floor (9.55). Also for New Ulm, Emma Radloff took third on bars (7.975), Madison Miller took third on the beam (8.35) and Anna Schwartz took third on floor (9.1).
Boys’ Basketball
MVL 73, GFW 58
WINTHROP — Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 73-58 on Friday night in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.
The Chargers were led by Ben Pearson’s 22 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists, while Cole Thompson had 15 points, seven assists and four steals. Also for MVL, Landen Merseth had 9 points and six rebounds and Kyler Flunker and Garrett Parker each had 8 points.
GFW was led by Braylan Freitag’s 18 points and five assists, while Easton Taylor had 18 points and Brody Hentges had 13 points, six assists and five rebounds.
MVL (4-12, 4-8) hosts Springfield on Monday night, while GFW (2-15, 1-10) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Monday night.
Springfield 70, BLHS 58
SPRINGFIELD — Springfield defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 70-58 on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.
The Tigers were led by James Coffland’s 22 points and six rebounds, while Logan Richert had 14 points and nine rebounds and Brayden Sturm had 11 points and seven rebounds. Carter Hillesheim added seven assists and six rebounds for Springfield.
No stats were available for BLHS.
Springfield (14-3, 9-3) is at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Monday night, while BLHS (7-9, 7-4) is at Lester Prairie on Thursday.
Sleepy Eye 46, RRC 34
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye topped Red Rock Central 46-34 on Friday night in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.
The Indians were led by Mason Sellner’s 17 points and four rebounds, while Erizen Traconis added 11 points, five rebounds and five steals and Marcus Martinez had 7 points and eight boards.
Sleepy Eye (2-14) plays Cleveland at Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday evening.

Alden-Conger 59
NICOLLET — Nicollet topped Alden-Conger 70-59 on Friday night in a Valley Conference boys’ basketball game.
The Raiders were led by Colton Thomsen’s 35 points, while Grant Bruns had 13 points and Conner Martens added 8 points.
Nicollet (7-9, 5-7) is at Mankato Loyola on Monday.

MORGAN — Sleepy Eye downed Cedar Mountain 73-37 on Friday night in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.
Sleepy Eye was led by Kadence Hesse’s 29 points, while Brea Mertz had 25 points.
Cedar Mountain was led by Teresa Larsen’s 16 points.
Sleepy Eye (16-3, 8-3) is at Wabasso on Monday, while Cedar Mountain (5-13, 2-9) is at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Monday.
