Buerkle, Taylor, Thompson highlight All-Journal Offense

Brendon Buerkle, QB, Sr., Springfield

Buerkle wrapped up his senior campaign as one of the state’s top passers, throwing for a state-leading 3,082 yards and 43 touchdowns. His yardage total was good for seventh all-time in state history, while his TD total was good enough for fifth all-time. In 10 games this season, Buerkle completed 204 of 332 passes (61.4%) and threw 14 interceptions. For his career, Buerkle finished with 4,170 yards passing, 59 TDs and 17 interceptions.

Treay Taylor, RB, Sr., GFW

Taylor finished his senior season with 1,802 yards rushing on 190 carries, good enough 9.5 yards per carry. He also had a team-leading 22 TDs rushing and caught 14 passes for 267 yards and four TDs. The two-year starter finished his career with 2,617 yards and 30 TDs on the ground while catching 18 passes for 421 yards and eight TDs.

Luke Thompson, QB, Sr., MVL

Thompson ended his senior year with 101 completions in 183 attempts, throwing for 1,562 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also rushed for 627 yards and three TDs on 109 carries while converting 11 two-point conversions. The two-time All-District player ends his career at MVL with 4,500 total offensive yards and 41 career TDs.

Dylen Carreon, RB, Sr., NUHS

Carreon capped off his senior season as a four-year letter winner, rushing for 909 yards and 10 TDs. He averaged 5 yards per carry and also ran in six 2-point conversions. The two-way player also made an impact on defense for the Eagles as an outside linebacker and finished the season by being named to the South Central All-District First Team.

Trent Steffensmeier, RB, Sr., St. Mary’s

Steffensmeier finished his season with 1,252 yards on the ground and 13 TDs. He also had 222 yards receiving and two TD receptions. For his career, Steffensmeier had 2,803 yards rushing, 27 TDs rushing, 360 yards receiving and three TD receptions.

Cole Thompson, WR, Jr., MVL

Thompson ended is junior year by hauling in 43 passes from his older brother Luke for 744 yards and nine TDs. He also rushed for 133 yards and five TDs on 27 carries while converting on nine total two-point conversions. The two-time All-District player, also a top threat on defense, currently has 76 career catches for 1,492 yards and 16 TDs.

Macoy Krick, WR, Jr., Springfield

Krick wrapped up a strong junior season with a state-leading 16 TD receptions. He also had 30 catches for 593 yards and and was described by co-head coach Adam Meyer as a deep threat that could also take screens and quick passes for large gains. Krick averaged almost 20 yards a reception.

Carter Olson, WR, So., Springfield

Olson finished his sophomore season with a state-leading 90 receptions, which was good enough to finish fourth all-time in the state. He also had 1,238 yards receiving (second in the state) and 14 TDs (tied for third in the state). He was described by co-head coach Adam Meyer as a safety blanket for the offense this season in the passing game.

Ashtin Johnson, RB, Jr., Springfield

Johnson wrapped up his junior season with the Tigers with 189 carries for 866 yards. He also ran for eight TDs, had four 2-point conversions and finished with 12 catches for 92 yards and a pair of TDs. For his career, the explosive player has 1,108 yards rushing.

Levi Jakes, RB, Jr., Cathedral

Jakes finished his junior season with the Greyhounds with 778 yards rushing on 98 carries, good enough for 7.9 ypc average. He also ran for eight TDs and an extra points with catching four passes for 31 yards and an XP. He was also named to the All-Subdistrict team.

Nick Freitag, WR, Sr., Cedar Mountain

Freitag, a receiver most of the season before also filling in at QB near the end of the year, finished his senior season with 46 receptions for 462 yards and eight TDs. He also ran for 391 yards and five TDs on 49 carries and passed for 194 yards and three TDs on 14-of-21 passing. He finished his career with 100 catches for 1,149 yards and 17 TD receptions.
