MLC men’s soccer players honored
NEW ULM – Three players from the Martin Luther College men’s soccer program were named to All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference teams on Wednesday. Xander Heiman and Lucas Martin were each named Second Team All-UMAC, while David Martin received Honorable Mention All-UMAC honors.
Lucas Martin led the Knights with 11 goals, four assists and 26 points this season, with almost all of that production coming in conference play. Martin’s 11 goals during UMAC play were fourth-most in the conference. He also finished among the top five in points shots on goal (third) and points (fifth).
Heiman also dialed up his performance during league play, scoring all eight of his goals and recorded 17 of his 18 total points in UMAC contests. His eight goals were fifth-most in the conference this season during UMAC play, and his 17 points tied him for seventh in the conference.
David Martin showed his versatility over the course of the season on the way to his honorable mention recognition. After scoring three goals playing mostly in the midfield during his debut season last spring, Martin settled into a key role on the Knights’ defense this fall, playing a strong two-way game that included three assists.
Senior Clay Hirsch was named the MLC recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, given to one player on each team who best exemplified sportsmanship during the season.
