NEW ULM -- After a big defensive stand forced overtime against Greenville College on Saturday afternoon, Martin Luther College was unable to carry that momentum over to its offense in overtime as the Panthers picked up a 21-14 win in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference football action.

After MLC's Brice Guse sacked Panthers quarterback Chase Butterfield to wrap up the fourth quarter tied 14-all, the Panthers started the first overtime period at the MLC 25 and used five plays to get into the end zone, scoring on a 1-yard run from Paul Garrett to go up a touchdown.

Garrett ended the game with 110 yards rushing on 20 carries.

The Knights then got their crack at the end zone and started their first two plays of OT with a pair of 3-yard rushes. An incomplete pass by QB Max Nordlie then led to a fourth down, where Greenville forced and recovered a fumble to end the game.

The Knights were up against the wall right away in the first quarter after Butterfield, who ended up passing for 230 yards, found Garrett for a 77-yard TD pass on the Panthers' first offensive play of the game. The half ended with Greenville ahead 7-0.

The Knights were able to tie it up with 6:31 left in the third quarter after a 1-yard run and fumble by Carson Oestereich was recovered by Mike Radue in the end zone. Greenville responded late in the third after Javiera Bovell forced a Knights fumble that was scooped up by Jaden Apple-Gibbs and taken 21 yards for a 14-7 Greenville lead.

The Knights got a 5-yard TD run by Max Nordlie with 9:30 left in regulation to tie it up at 14-all after the extra-point kick by Josh Kehren.

Fumbles were a big issue for the Knights as they fumbled five times and lost two, with one leading directly to 6 points for the Panthers. Greenville ended the game with 342 total yards, while the Knights ended with 304.

Oestereich led the Knights on the ground with 112 yards rushing on 25 carries. Max Nordlie threw for 117 yards on 7-of-18 passing, while Radue had three catches for 70 yards and Oestereich had two catches for 41 yards.

Noah Nordlie, Nathan Golisch, David Hirsch and Guse each had a sack for the Knights' defense, while Golisch also blocked a field goal attempt.

The Knights (1-4) look to snap a three-game skid when they travel to take on Crown College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
