Alma comes back to beat MLC

NEW ULM — Martin Luther College scored the first 13 points of the game on Saturday but Alma came back and defeated the Knights 35-27 in nonconference college football on Saturday.

Max Nordlie threw for three touchdowns and 107 yards for the Knights. He threw touchdown passes to Mike Radue and two to Joshua Kren. Kren had 66 yards receiving and a 54-yard rushing touchdown. He had one carry for 54 yards and Carson Oestreich had 18 carries for 47 yards.

The Knights scored the first two touchdowns of the game, but Alma took a 14-13 lead into halftime on touchdowns by Vernonell Smill and Keegan Benkhardt. After Alma scored on its first possession of the second half, Kren scored a rushing touchdown and he later caught a touchdown pass to put the Knights up 27-21.

Alma added two late scores for the final 35-27 margin.

Alma outgained MLC 180-154 on the ground and it threw for 264 yards compared to 107 for MLC. MLC’s defense forced five turnovers in the game but the Knights allowed 444 yards of total offense. Aiden Holien led MLC with 11 tackles.

MLC (1-3) hosts Greenville at noon next Saturday for its homecoming game.
