Springfield wins wild game with Cathedral

NEW ULM — Brendan Buerkle threw for four touchdowns and ran for another as Springfield downed New Ulm Cathedral 50-33 Saturday night in a Southwest District game.
Sam Knowles threw for three touchdowns and added a running score for the Greyhounds.
The Tigers jumped to a 16-7 lead after one quarter that saw an 84-yard touchdown pass from Buerkle to Sam Pidde.
Cathedral pulled to within 30-21 at halftime on a touchdown pass from Knowles to Sam Blomberg, Knowles and Blomberg would combine again in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers outscored Cathedral 14-0 in the third quarter on touchdown passes from Buerkle to Carter Olson of 5 yards and a 16-yard scoring pass to Tate Mathiowetz.
Cathedral scored twice in the third quarter on touchdown passes from Knowles to Jevan Wilfahrt and Blomberg.
The Tigers used a 24-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown from Carter Olson to ice the game.
