Bethany routs MLC men

NEW ULM -- Bethany Lutheran College turned in a dominating performance to open the season against Martin Luther College as the Vikings defeated MLC 7-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference men's soccer season opener at MLC on Wednesday.
The Vikings got three goals from Max Busch as they raced out to a 4-1 lead in the opening half. They continued that domination in the second half and they outshot MLC 27-13 in the game.
Mick Van De Kolk scored the game's first goal at the 3:30 mark and Busch scored his first goal at 16:24. Busch then added his second goal at 22:01 before MLC's Isaias Santos got the Knights on the board at 28:35 to cut the lead to 3-1, but the Vikings added a fourth goal in the half at the 40:34 mark.
The Vikings got goals from Tomas Abreu, Busch and Beni Nkoy in the second half for the final scoring.
Michael Friesenegger and Adam Rosenbaum each had three saves for the Knights, who travel to St. Mary's in Winona on Monday for a nonconference battle.
Women's soccer
BLC 3, MLC 0
NEW ULM -- BLC scored three second-half goals en route to a 3-0 victory over MLC on Wednesday in UMAC women's soccer.
Asia Jota, Isabella Garza and Madison Perry all scored a goal for Bethany, which outshot MLC 30-7 for the game.
MLC (0-1) is at St. Mary's on Monday.
