St. Mary's 3, ML/GHEC/T 0
NORTHRUP -- Sleepy Eye St. Mary's swept Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman 25-20, 25-14, 25-18 on Tuesday night in a nonconference volleyball match.
The Knights were led by Madison Mathiowetz's 15 kills, six digs and five ace serves. Jaci Domeier also had 11 kills, five digs and an ace for St. Mary's, who travels to Wabasso next on Sept. 9.
Sleepy Eye 3, Mankato Loyola 0
MANKATO -- Sleepy Eye swept Mankato Loyola 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 in nonconference volleyball action on Tuesday night.
Sleepy Eye was led by Kadence Hesse's nine kills, 11 digs and three ace serves, while Breaunna Mertz added seven kills, six digs and three aces. Priscilla Martinez finished with 10 set assists and five digs for the Indians, while Morgan Hoffmann added six kills.
Sleepy Eye hosts Lester Prairie on Tuesday.
MVL 3, Maple River 1
MANKATO -- Minnesota Valley Lutheran topped Maple River 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21 in nonconference volleyball action on Tuesday night at Bethany Lutheran College.
Kaylee Hunter had a balanced night all-around to lead the Chargers with 17 set assists, 15 kills and 13 digs. Lili Mohror also had 17 kills and two blocks, while Sam Dalueg had 19 set assists and 11 digs. Becca Kuck also added six kills and five set assists for MVL, who is now 1-0 on the year and travels to take on New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday in Tomahawk Conference action.
Minneota 3, Wabasso 0
WABASSO -- Minneota swept Wabasso 25-10, 25-14, 25-6 on Tuesday night in nonconference volleyball action.
Audrey Johnson led the Rabbits with 11 digs, while Avery Carlson and Kelsey Frank each had five kills. Carlson also had seven set assists, while Ashlyn Daub had four blocks.
Wabasso (0-2) hosts Dawson-Boyd on Thursday.
Sibley East 3, GFW 0
ARLINGTON -- Sibley East topped Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in three sets of nonconference volleyball action on Tuesday night, winning 25-16, 25-19, 25-12.
GFW was led by Julia Schweiss' 14 kills and five blocks, while Brynn Busse had 14 set assists, eight digs and two blocks. Taylor Haas had six digs and three ace serves for the Thunderbirds as well.
Sibley East's Addie Williams had 21 set assists, while Jennifer Wolter had 15 kills and three aces. Molly Krentz had 14 kills for the Wolverines, while Eleanor Kreft had 15 set assists.
GFW (0-1) hosts St. Clair in its home opener on Thursday. Sibley East (1-0) hosts Glencoe-Silver Lake on Tuesday.
WWG 3, Springfield 1
WESTBROOK -- Westbrook-Walnut Grove topped Springfield in four sets of nonconference volleyball action on Tuesday night, winning 25-8, 17-25, 26-24, 29-27.
Springfield was led by Brooklyn Sturm's 14 kills, while Tori Roiger and Jaeli Richert each had 14 set assists. Sturm also had 23 digs, while Maddy Digmann had 23 digs and Bree Rasmussen had 21 digs.
Springfield (0-2) is at Fulda on Tuesday.
Prep Cross-Country
SM/SE/NUC's Fischer takes 3rd at Mankato East Invite
MANKATO -- Sleepy Eye St. Mary's/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral cross-country senior Clare Fischer led her team at the Mankato East Invitational on Tuesday, finishing third with a time of 20:58.5.
Elle Kyllonen finished 30th for the SM/SE/NUC girls with a time of 25:12.4. Leading the SM/SE/NUC boys was Noah Christensen, who finished 25th with a time of 20:29.6.
Minnesota Valley Lutheran also competed at the event, with senior Donovan Witte taking 26th (20:32.5). Laura Rossow was the top girls' finisher for MVL, finishing 49th (30:48.5).
Springfield/Cedar Mountain also saw success at the invite as Ben Potter took 15th (19:40.3), Zach Hensch took 21st (20:21.1) and Triston Groebner took 34th (20:50.0) for the boys. For the Springfield/CM girls, Lilly McCone took 10th (22:29.7), Emmie McCone took 11th (22:30.1), Marissa Pabst took 15th (23:04) and Skyla Dauer took 17th (23:34.4).
Girls' Tennis
Marshall 7, New Ulm 0
MARSHALL -- Marshall swept New Ulm 7-0 on Tuesday in Big South Conference girls' tennis.
Lydia King was the lone Eagle to force a third set before falling to Taylor Depover in No. 3 singles action 3-6, 6-3, 5-10.
New Ulm travels to take on River Valley next on Sept. 9.
