NEW ULM — There is a tie for first place in the Tomahawk East League.

Mitch Bockenstedt scattered seven hits through eight innings and the New Ulm Brewers jumped to a 4-0 lead after three innings and went on to down previously unbeaten Springfeld 7-5 Sunday afternoon at Johnson Park.

Bockenstedt fanned eight as New Ulm improved to 11-1 in the TEL.

Justin Haugo was tagged with the loss for Springfield, now also 11-1 in league play.

J.T. Hoffmann, Hunter Ranweiler, Zach More and Josh Seidl each had two hits for the Brewers who play at Leavenworth Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.

Jake Poehler, Decker Scheffler, and Ryan Sturm each had two hits for Springfield who host Searles Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Brewers wasted little time in getting an early lead on the Tigers scoring a run in the first off of the lefthanded Haugo when Hoffmann singled, scampered to second on a wild pitch and then stole third. He scored on a Peters’ single.

New Ulm tacked on two more runs in the second thanks to two Springfeld errors. Colton Schaefer reached on a fielder’s choice before Josh Seidl singled. A wild pitch and an infield error allowed Schaefer to score. Seidl hustled home on an error of a Hoffmann fly ball.

Zach More’s RBI single in the third plated Ranweiler who had singled to start the inning for a 4-0 lead.

But the Tigers got to Bockenstedt for two runs in the top of the fifth on two hits and two Brewers errors.

The Brewers added a solo run in the bottom of the fifth when Hoffmann led off with a triple to deep center field.

He trotted home on a Ranweiler groundout.

New Ulm added two big insurance runs in the home half of the eighth off of reliever Mason Rummel. A fiielder’s choice, walks to Seidl and Brody Peterson, a passed ball and a Judd Davis sacrifice fly made it a 7-2 contest.

Springfield would piece together a rally off of reliever Chris Cariveau in the ninth on a two-run single from Carter Erickson and a Decker Scheffler sacrifice fly.
